Shane kept a tight grip on Elliot. He didn't want the man wiggling out of his grasp. However, he hadn't thought about a low blow since he hadn't taken Elliot for the type of scum that liked to break the natural laws of men. He groaned and fell slowly backwards, releasing Elliot in the process. However, the blow had angered him. There would be no more pity for Elliot. Without a second thought he grabbed a rock from beside him and threw it at the man's face to make sure he didn't get near. Meanwhile he kept trying to control the urge to throw up.

As soon as he released him, he made a mad scramble away from Shane. There was no way he was going to stick around any longer. As he ran, he heard something whizz past his ear--a rock. He really was trying to get him killed. Not that he was surprised, after what he'd done. If he got caught now, he was a goner. In the distance he saw what appeared to be rows of fairly tall sagebrushes. Figuring he might be able to blend in by dropping low among them, he dashed towards it.

Shane realized he needed to act fast. His mind began studying his surroundings for a second, like it always did. He saw two things out of place: Elliot's sword and boomerang. The man hadn't picked it up after falling down from the tree and it was lying there near him, as was the boomerang a bit further away. He could see Elliot running away out of the corner of his mind. It was now or never. He gathered the strength he could and got back on his head, taking the sword with him. He sheathed his own sword as he leaned to grab the boomerang. Finally he began walking in the direction of Elliot, boomerang and sword ready. He could see Elliot heading for some sagebrushes. This would be fun.

He slid down on the ground amongst the thick bushes and laid flat on his stomach. Taking gulps of air to try and steady his heavy breathing, he raised his head a little so he would be able to keep an eye on Shane. Then he began racking his brain for another plan. He needed some way to make fire, but how? Shane hadn't fallen for his trick and he hadn't a single match on him. And he doubted Shane would allow him time to gather up sticks and start one the old fashioned way.

Shane stopped halfway and smiled. Elliot apparently had doubted his ability to make fire. He put down the weapons and got a bit closer to the bushes where the man was hiding. It hadn't been that long since his last soul. He would just have to concentrate extra hard. He took a deep breath. "Oh Elliot!" he called, "You wanted to see if I could set the bush on fire?" He smiled. "How about I set a bunch of them on fire?" He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them, they were colored deep purple-like. They always turned like that when he tried to control fire. He closed his palm and opened it, a small flame appearing on it. He smiled, his strange-colored eyes glistening mischievously. He moved his hand as if he was throwing something at the bushes, and a jet of flames shot out to them, igniting all of them. Elliot was in trouble.

"Oh Elliot!" Elliot internally winced and squished himself lower to the ground when he heard the man call out his name. Perhaps it was the fear speaking, but he thought he could definitely detect a hint of malice in his voice.
"You wanted to see if I could set the bush on fire?"
Wait a minute, was he actually going to...? He cautiously peered out from the bushes again and spotted Shane a little ways off from his position. Smiling that unsettling smile of his.
"How about I set a bunch of them on fire?"
He froze. A bunch of t--he was going to set the place on fire, Din, Nayru and Farore. With no point in hiding now, he scrambled to his feet, just in time to see Shane's hands become engulfed in fire, or maybe they weren't actually engulfed in fire, he didn't know and he didn't have time to sit down and have a pleasant conversation with him about it because right now he knew he had to get out of that dry fire hazard of a place before he turned into a-
              FWOOOSH!
He lowered the arm he'd instinctively raised to his eyes when he'd felt the hot blast of air and yelped. He was surrounded by walls of fire. If he took a single step in any direction, he'd be stepping right into a burning bush. And the fire was making its way towards him. He'd gotten his wish for fire alright. And yet, he knew there'd be no escaping this. Not this time.
              But...
He glared at Shane through the smokey heat of the flames.
If he was going down, so was Shane. Oh yes, Shane was going down with a...bang. His hand shifted to his pack but he gasped and automatically moved his hand away when he felt a hot burning sensation sear his hand. He looked down in shock to see that his bag had already caught on fire--when had that happen? Realizing that the dangerous situation he was in just got that more dangerous, he hastily yanked off the burning bag and drew his arm back to heave it over the fire and towards Shane-
              -just as the bag exploded.
The last thing he saw was a bright flash of light, ensuring sure that Elliot would never see the irony of the situation, or any situation, ever again.
