(Not entirely happy with the title, so if you think of a better one, please let me know.)

This is a story that I've been toying with the last few days, and I've finally decided to post it. The creatures described are from my Imogene stories; however, this story is not in Imogene. I will do my best to describe the creatures fully, but please let me know if anything is confusing or abstract.

    Chapter One

Joshua tore down the street, dodging hoverboarders, cars, and the many pedestrians. Glancing behind him, he saw the Wralien chasing him was being held up as the traffic light turned green. He laughed as her mismatched gold and blue eyes glared at him from between passing cars. "Can't catch me!" he yelled back at her. She snarled in response.
He ducked around a corner and took several turns until he was certain he had lost her. He then procceeded to the outdoor market. He loved hanging out there, watching the people and their Creatures shopping. He especially liked watching the latter when their owners didn't come, as it gave him a chance to practice his sigils. You see, each Creature wore a collar bearing the crest of its owner's family. The collars came in a variety of styles, so to guess who specifically each Creature belonged to, you had to know the owner's personal style.
"That's Lord Vladimir's," Joshua muttered as he saw a Warlf, a humanoid Creature with the features of a wolf, wearing a collar bearing the bronze and green oak crest. "And there's Duchess Citine's" The dark blue and violet flowers borne by a humanoid Creature with cheetah features called Chetara. Warlves and Chetaras are Creatures usually seen in the market, being the least likely to try running away. Sometimes he saw a Volar or Loboscura, which were basically winged forms of the Chetaras and Warlves. However, he almost never saw a Wralien. This is because they were used as soldiers and guards, due to their savagery.
Joshua frowned as he spotted a Wralien across the market. What was it doing here? Then he noticed its eyes and realized it was the one chasing him. Quickly he ducked through the crowds, grateful for his small stature, and dashed into a side-street. He took several more turns before slowing, certain he had lost her this time.
In fact, he had lost himself. He didn't recognize this part of the city. The buildings were closer together, blocking most of the sun, and decorated with graffiti. Some of the designs made him particularily uneasy as he walked along. He eyed the shadows warily as he carefully made his way down the alley.
    "You look lost, boy."
Joshua jumped and, whirling around, found himself facing a black Volar. The Creature towered over him, its dark green eyes smiling at him in a way that made more uneasy. "N-no, I-I'm fine."
It bent over until its face was level with his. "Really? Because you smell..." It paused and inhaled deeply, then smiled as it finished, "Rich."
Joshua frowned. "What's that have to do with me being lost?"
"Simple. Rich people don't come here, and rich kids like you stay with your parents. Where you're safe." It reached out, grabbing his chin with thumb and forefinger. Its grin turned malicious as he tried to squirm away. "Yes, I think you'll make me a lot of money."
Abruptly, it let go as something slammed into it. It reeled, extending its feathery wings to balance itself. A Wralien stood between it and Joshua, its scorpion-like tail pointing the curved knife at its tip at the Volar. Joshua frowned as he noticed the Wralien's cleaming black scales and course black fur seemed so much cleaner than the Volar's fur and feathers. "No one touches him while I'm around," she growled.
The Volar snarled, but retreated into the shadows, not wanting to try fighting a Wralien. Joshua breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Moonscar."
She turned on him, eyes narrowed dangerously. "Don't run from me again, boy. A nine-year-old prince shouldn't be running around on his own."
He drew himself to his full height, which wasn't much more than hers. "I'm older than you; by rights, I should be the one keeping you safe."
"I might be two years younger, but I'm a Wralien, with talents you'll never have." She jabbed at the thing gold collar around her neck, with the Royal family, hawk-shaped crest engraved in rich purple on it. "Besides, I'm a Creature. Our job is to serve humans, not be served. Now come on, we need to get back to the palace before someone decides to try their luck against me."

    Chapter Two

Moonscar's claws clicked loudly on the stone floors as she hurried down the palace halls, Joshua on her heels. "You're right about it being fun to run away rather than chase," she said over her shoulder, "but is it really wise to be running in the halls like this?"
"Hey, you're the one who didn't want to be in the market," he replied, dodging around a Chetara sevent. "Besides, this is better. Not only do we have to dodge humans and Creatures, we also have to turn sharply at speed to avoid crashing into the wall."
Moonscar twisted to avoid a statue. "I'll admit, it is a good exercise." Her claws scraped the floor as she skidded around a corner. Joshau nearly crashed into the wall himself, but managed to make it through the turn. "And I never said I didn't want to go to the market. After you almost got kidnapped six years ago, your father forbade me from taking you out without a very good reason."
The pair dodged around a Loboscura carrying a tea tray, who scolded at them. They ran through the halls for afew more minutes, but eventually, Joshua caught Moonscar. "See?" he panted as they stopped. "That was fun, wasn't it?"
She shrugged, also breathing heavily. "I prefer to be the one chasing. It goes against my instinct to be prey."
He flicked her tail blade. "Not that you could ever be mistaken for prey." Wraliens were built as powerful hunters, with their long, knife-tipped tails, sharp claws, and tiger-like teeth. Their scales, which covered their lower legs and were scattered up their backs, helped them run at speed, while their coarse fur protected them from any weather variations as they hunted. They had tiger-like face and pointed ears, with senses many times that of a human's.
While a little on the small side by Wralien terms, Moonscar was still taller than most humans, being just shy of six feet, and her muscle mass discouraged any attacks from Creatures. Her collar had changed over the years as she grew, until she wore a gold lunula edged with blue waves. Joshua had ordered its commission himself, wanting it to go with her mismatched blue and gold eyes.
Joshua was a head shorter than her, with green-grey eyes and thick dirty-blonde hair, usually just parted down the middle. He still had some baby fat, but his upper lip had a few dark hairs. He exercised often enough that he wasn't tubby, but he wasn't exactly fit either. At present, he wore a gold, short-sleeved shirt, black pants, and black-and-white sneakers, all of very high grade.
Moonscar tweaked his ear. "Just like no one could ever mistake you for anything but a prince."
He glowered at her. "For once, I wish people didn't acknowledge that. I want to be more than just the future king. I mean, how many other royal heirs have there been? And who knows how many there'll be after me. Nothing distinguishes me from them."
"There is one thing," she mused. He looked up at her and she rufgled his hair, grinning. "You're the first prince to catch a Wralien."
He laughed. "And about to be the first to escape one," he said as he took off running again. "Last one to lunch is a broiled toad!"

This is waaay over due for posting. Oh well, I haven't even started on the next one. Curse you, work and school! I'll get a move on the next chapter, though. I know you guys will be waiting for it after reading this one. :P

      Chapter Three

      "Joshua! Get up!"
The boy shifted and groaned under the blankets. "Wha?" he asked sleepily.
"Joshua, if you don't get up right now, I am going to drag you out myself," Moonscar growled.
"Alright, alright," He sat up and stretched. He looked up and frowned as he noticed it was still dark outside and Moonscar carried a lamp like when they went camping. "What's going on? It's not morning yet."
She threw clothes at him. "No time," she snapped. "You must get dressed and get ready to go." She started rummaging through the bureau drawers, pulling out clothes at random and tossing them around the room.
Joshua grumbled as he pulled on the plain blue shirt and faded black jeans. He heard a bang as he was tying his shoes and asked, “When did it start raining?”
Moonscar had stiffened at the sound, but seemed to recover at his question. “That wasn’t thunder.” She pulled a few drawers all the way out and dumped their contents on the floor, then proceeded to the bookshelf and started knocking the dust-covered volumes off before hissing and shouting the whole thing over.
Joshua jumped at the loud crash. “What are you doing?!”
“Making it look like someone has already searched here,” She answered while shoving papers off his desk. “Knock that wine of yours over than throw the pillows on the floor.” She went to the windows and tore down the blinds, then shoved the lamp off its stand.
When she felt the room was as trashed as necessary, she grabbed the boy’s arm and pulled him out the door. As she half pulled, half dragged him down the hall, she hissed, “Take my lunula and put it on yourself.”
      “But-” He started in outrage.
“Creatures are rebelling, boy!” she snapped. “If you don’t take my collar off, I won’t be able to defend you, and if you put it on, they won’t attack us. Now do it quickly, before someone sees us.”
Meekly, the boy obliged. He knew the collars had been designed to inhibit the creature’s abilities, to keep them in shock. Mostly, it forced them to be weaker and slower than they would be otherwise, and Volars and Loboscura were incapable of flight. On humans, the effects were usually very light, but collars for Wraliens had to be much stronger. Joshua noticed his strength vanish as he snapped Moonscar’s collar on, so much so that he stumbled and nearly fell.
Swiftly, the Wralien wrapped her tail around him and lifted him to his feet.”We need to flee the city. Until we’re away, you’re in danger, so do everything I say, and I mean everything I tell you. Do you understand?”
“Yes,” he whispered, starting to realize just how serious this was.
“Good.” She started running down the hall, twisting her tail so that his added weight didn’t tip her. “You must act scared of me. Bury your face in your hands so that you aren’t recognized. Cry if you can; otherwise, make sobs and plead with me to let you go. Offer me riches and treasures beyond measure; threaten me with the worst punishment you can think of. Pretend I am actually kidnapping you, and act accordingly.”
He did as she told him, hesitantly at first, then with growing enthusiasm. Had they been under more pleasant circumstances, it would have been fun, him offering rewards and threats and her responding with sneers and insults. Still, the act got them past other creatures and out of the palace without incident. Joshua glanced back at it as the cold night air brushed his cheeks. Smoke billowed out of some of the windows, accompanied by screams, the breaking of furniture and smashing doors, and flashes of light as laser guns were fired. Tears slid down his face as Moonscar weaved through the city. “What happens now?” he whispered.
“We leave this place behind, until it is time for you to return,” she answered grimly. “For now, we just survive.”
