  • A Theoretical Future Hyrule

Sup? Well an idea I've been thinking and proposing/discussing on TNO is the hypothetical (yet practical) future for Hyrule.

I would like to think that Hyrule went Industrial. What do I mean? Consider Spirit Tracks, a Zelda game involving the use of locomotives and steam (so we assume). Well wouldn't it make sense that along the path of that thinking that an industrial revolution hit Hyrule? Take the timeline involving post OoT and no WW. Hyrule alone has plenty of resources to make steam. Take the mountains around Death Mountain, I would bet that there is plenty of natural coal in the mountains. Furthermore, you can use the trees to burn for more steam power and make charcoal. With that abundance, it would only be natural that someone puts the pieces together to make a steam engine.

With that invention there is usually two options to choose from. The first being our reality. Steam engines are used in locomotives and factories and for the dawn of electricity. Or the second (my personal favorite), the route of Steampunk. Steampunk, if you don't know is usually described as the use of steam engines for more of a military purpose, such as airships and ironclad tanks and trains. I would love to imagine Hyrule eventually flourishing into the Steampunk era, one involving powerful airships soaring through the sky and take the fight from land to air. I love to imagine the industrial Hyrule being full of Airships suspended over their homebase.

With all that said, if we EVER (and I mean this VERY VERY hypothetically) get to a point where Age of War dulls and has that 'technological' potential, would this be an idea you would like to see? It's not anything that will likely happen soon since naval ships are just starting out, but a technology bomb could happen.

    Whatcha think?

I love the idea of Steampunk (It's my favorite AU ever, the fanart is amazing) and I think that if we do hit a rut, that we should use the idea with some hesitation. A site vote if we get that deep in a rut.

As cool as steampunk is, I'm not sure full-out steampunk would preserve the 'Zelda' feel. Perhaps a very limited steampunk, but I think only if we got into a MAJOR rut.
So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.

Yeah, like you two, I wouldn't want this to happen unless we got deep into this rut. It does sound really cool, though. I'm not fully familiar with the Steampunk style but I do know enough about it to like your idea. How would we know that this would bring many members back though? I feel like if lots of people did come back and it got really active, we might end up wanting to switch back to normal Hyrule but it will be too late. Although, I can pretty easily imagine a way of doing this without too many changes. If we really did do it, I would suggest the whole new era starting in just one place, like Hyrule Castle Town. But I do admit I like the idea of RPing in an airship crew over Hyrule. We would definitely be the first site to do this :P I just wouldn't want to see it for a loooooong time. But remember, you can always try other things that might bring in new members, I'm not sure what though...

If we want, we could always try to create a split universe. Keep the original RP and then create a steampunk-style RP in a popular area, say, Hyrule. That way, people wouldn't be forced to RP in a steampunk enviroment.

I personally don't like the idea of a steampunk version, but I agree with BC. If it was a separate thing, it wouldn't be that bad, but I MUCH prefer medieval era to modern era where RPs are concerned.

It might be much better to have a separate section, because not only would we also have normal Hyrule like you guys are saying but we could also make descendants of characters we're using in normal Hyrule if we wanted to :P

I do like Steampunk enough to get behind the idea, and I do agree, if we make this we should make it with a seperate chunk.
If we do make it a seperate chunk, we could do it sooner, right?

I like this idea. RPing with characters descended from my own would be cool. Some of it, though, would influence who my characters end up with.

Alright since this is the first time I have checked the site all day, I'll lay out what more I was thinking.

                    1) As a theory, it is also a discussion on a future era of Hyrule. Note I put this in the Zelda section, whereas an RP plan.

                    2) Having said that, should it be used as an RP outlet, I would want it as a very distant future. I have no intentions of using this as a lure for other members, or would-be's. However, if demand from you guys wanted this outlet, I will not object in the least bit.

                    3) Now to address any potential "Age of War Continuity", so to speak. If I did this as a sooner, rather than later option, it would be a whole new section. For the time being, and forum space and organization, I would make one thread in the other RPG sections. I feel it would help keep the content alive and consolidate forum root space (at a glance). Furthermore, I share sympathies that it should stay isolated to a specific region, like Hyrule or, just maybe, Logata?

                    4) As for timeline placement in accordance to the above continuity, I would be willing to allow it as a direct future of Age of War, allowing those to expand on character family tree and timelines. And yes, I would no longer call this era, "Age of War". Naturally, it would be closer to "Age of Steam" or "Age of Industry", or something. Idk. Now that is all layed out, you all may resume or question or theorize. :P
