James laughed a little at the other's reactions. Elwood just stared in shock at the place where Sephira had been. "Did that bird just eat Sephira?" he asked confused. Titania jingled no in his ear and bumped him a little for his naiveness. James turned to Gerrard and answered proudly. "That was my girlfriend." Then he turned and continued walking, keeping and eye on the sky at all times. Elwood began to follow him, still confused. "So James is dating a bird? What happened to Sephira?" Titania jingled again, exasperated.
"Don't worry about it, guys, just keep going. We've already lost a lot of time." James made sure Star and Midnight followed as well. James had made sure to grab Sephira's clothes so that Star didn't have to carry everything, and kept the feather that had fallen in his pocket.

Sephira trilled happily as she flew over the group, her swan-like body easily keeping up with them. She had been right when she told James she wouldn't be spotted. After all, she didn't really burn in her phoenix form. It just looked like it when she moved, with all the red, orange, and yellow feathers moving together in the right way. The effect was more dramatic in the sun, when she would look more alight with the light weaving among her feathers. But it was still impressive in the night. At least it was to her.
She was trying not to sing with her pleasure at being a phoenix again, but it was hard. She loved to sing as a phoenix, in the beautiful wild cry of the bird, but she knew that she couldn't sing too loudly or the Gerudo would hear her. So she just clamped her beak shut and glided over the group. It was still hard though, and she kept catching herself whistling. Later, she promised herself. After we're out of the desert.

Gerrard walked alongside James, still puzzled over what just occurred. He knew that thing was Sephira, common logic told him that, but he was still puzzled. He really didn't want to think of it right now so he just kept walking, listening to the crunching of sand under his feet, the wind going through the air, and the complete silence. It had been so long since he has had silence that he could barely remember that time, months ago, his life has been so busy.

Luna and rose walked beside each other, there arms looped together. they chatted about nothing in particular. they just knew how much they had missed each other, and knew how the gerudo thought. the others were being overly careful, the gerudo wouldn't come near them, they were too busy, working under ganondorfs dictatorship.

James stopped abruptly, putting his hand in front of Elwood to make him stop as well. "Hold on guys," he called out to the others. Elwood looked at him curiously, "What is it?" James listened hard for a moment in complete silence, looking out in front of them. Then suddenly he said with a gasp, "That." He pointed out in front of them. In the darkness, it was hard to make it out, but he was sure it was what he was thinking. Titania looked and jingled in alarm, James was right. James turned to the others. "Get to cover now!" He began running, pulling Elwood along with him. The Kokiri still wasn't sure what was going on. The wall of sand that had risen in the distance was heading for them fast. It was incredible that they had been in the desert for such a short time and already nature was challenging them. A sand storm.
James had read a lot about them, but had never been in one himself. Being caught without cover in one caused asphyxiation, and even blindness if they eyes weren't treated soon. They couldn't take the risk of that happening to them. He looked around desperately for somewhere they could hide from the 1.6 km high storm, and hoped Sephira would be OK. He looked at Star and Midnight pleadingly. Maybe the animals would be able to find a spot to hide better in the dark.

(last time I checked, the Wralien was Storm, not the cheetah. :b)

Star and Midnight hurried along a little ahead of the group, trying to find somewhere to take shelter. Midnight sensed the rocky outcropping first and hurried toward it, barking to let the others know where he was going. Star turned back to help hurry the others on, snapping at their heels if she felt they weren't going fast enough. She knew it wouldn't help much with her case against Ea, but if it saved the girl's life, what did it matter?

Sephira wasn't so lucky. She saw the commotion going on below her but couldn't figure out what it was about. That is, until she felt the wind buffeting at her. She had never flown in a storm before, much less a sandstorm, so she had no idea how to fly with it. She tried banking, allowing the wind to push her, but she knew it was blowing her away from her companions. She tried to land, but the winds wouldn't allow her to. She was slave to wherever the winds blew her. Gracious Farore, calm the winds. Let me rejoin my friends, she silently prayed. Perhaps in response to her prayer, the winds stopped blowing her around like a kite and pushed her in a specific direction. Sephira breathed a sigh of relief and locked her wings to glide with the wind. She glanced around, trying to see if she could spot everyone from the height.
Suddenly, Sephira spotted fire. She narrowed her eyes at it, certain that no one in her little group would try lighting a torch or something in this howling wind. She banked to the side, trying to fight the wind, now that she was certian it was blowing her the wrong way, but it was too strong. And it was blowing her straight to the Gerudo Fortress. Sephira shrieked as an arrow pierced her wing, another hitting her breast. Down she fell, her sight quickly clouding over as she died.

Midnight turned into the wind, his ears standing straight up. Star glanced at him, wondering what he had heard. She hadn't heard anything, but she had felt something happen. She wasn't sure what it was, though. Midnight threw his head back and howled. Star's eyes widened and whirled around to search the desert, to find where her mistress had fallen.

Gerrard looked up at what James was pointing at, and groaned internally, they could never get a break. He was able to make out the two animals heading towards what seemed to be a small rock formation, he followed them, keeping his sleeve over his mouth. In the back of his mind he was wondering of Sephira was okay, but he was confident in her abilities to stay alive, he trusted her in that matter. Then suddenly Midnight started to howl, Gerrard glanced around, not knowing what to do. He didn't want to risk getting close to them, else they get violent so he just glanced at James since he knew he knew the animals much more than he did.

James hurried to the place Midnight had spotted. Once he was safe he took deep breaths to steady himself. He had seen Gerrard reach safety, but he could only hope the others had as well. When Midnight began to howl and Star became anxious, he frowned. What was going on? He got near them. "What's going on guys?" he asked. He hoped not, but in the back of his mind he could already feel the answer. Sephira...
Of course he wouldn't understand what the animals said, but he could try.

Midnight continued to howl, his voice nearly melding with the wind's. Star turned to James, knowing he couldn't understand her answering him. Still, he asked, and Sephira had chosen him for her mate. Star nuzzled James' pocket, the one where he had put Sephira's feather. She wasn't sure how she'd convey the Stari's death, but she knew it would be harder without using the feather. She'd prefer to use the pendant, since it was more personal to Sephira, but she couldn't reach that high.

James frowned. He reached into his pocket as he looked around to see if everyone had made it to safety. "Are you OK, guys?" he called out as he pulled the feather from his pocket. He looked at it curiously. He remembered putting it in his pocket, but he didn't remember it being ice cold. He looked it over, it felt weird somehow. Star was trying to tell him something, but he couldn't understand why Sephira's feather was that impor- Sephira! he realized. The feather hadn't been ice cold before because Sephira had been a powerful phoenix that could burn you! So if the feather was cold... He gasped and looked at Star with pleading eyes.

Ea huddled down under a large-enough rock. She heard James call. "Yeah, I'm fine. I think." She looked at Midnight, then back to James. "Could someone shut that dog up!?"

Star watched the expressions on James' face shift from confusion to horror and guessed he had come to the conclusion on his own. She nudged his knee, purring reassuringly, then turned to Midnight. The huntress is right, Midnight. You really are annoying doing that.
The wolf shushed and lay down on his side. I know. But it is difficult, knowing we have to leave her behind. The wind blowing as it is will shift the sand so much I won't be able to track her scent. She won't get the burning her heart desires so much.
Don't worry. We'll see her again soon enough, the cheetah assured him. Then she turned to James and rubbed against his legs, offering her support. As long as Sephira was gone, James was the Alpha in the pack.

James closed his eyes and thought painfully as he waited for the storm to recede. Whatever had happened to Sephira, there was nothing he could do about it now. Hopefully she would be OK, and since Star and Midnight seemed to have calmed down she probably was. He sighed and opened his eyes, looking around. He gave the cheetah a half-smile and looked at the storm. It already seemed like it was starting to slow. It would probably be a few minutes before it stopped, and then they would have to keep going. As much as he wanted to look for Sephira, he knew they would never be able to find her in the giant kingdom of the sand. It was better if they kept going and hoped for the best. At least, that's what he thought she would do.

Gerrard was still slightly shocked at the events that have occurred, but when he saw that the animals calmed down he told himself that meant she was safe. He looked at the sandstorm letting his eyes gaze on the millions of grains of sand swirl around in a natural frenzy. in a way, he thought, this storm is kinda beautiful. As time passed by and the storm slowed he took a deep breath and looked around.

Rose and Luna finally made it out of the storm, having been seperated from the rest of the group by it. However, it wasn't a good thing "oh no!" gasped Luna "we're at the gerudo fortress" Rose paled with fear, Luna hugging her "It will be ok, just say here and stay hidden" she said "The activity will die down soon and..." Luna's words broke off as a man came marching down on a black horse. it was Ganondorf. Seeing him, Rose had to hold back puke. She knew she had to run, but if she moved from behind the large rock they were hidden behind she would be caught for sure.
