  • James smiled as he stepped into the house after Sephira and closed the door. Even with her flame, it was getting really dark in here, so he decided to look for candles in his pack, instead of asking Sephira to create more flames so that the house wouldn't burn down. He remembered the first time she had seen her powers and how stunned he had been, but now they seemed just under normal. He walked up to his pack beneath the counter and rummaged through it. Sadly, he found nothing useful. He stood up and turned to Sephira, "I'll look for the pots, and maybe find a few candles on the way." He opened the cupboard but there were no pots or pans, so he walked to the living room. There was a small bookshelf with no books, but there was a little drawer. He pulled it open with some difficulty to find a few candles inside. He grinned and took them back to Sephira. "Well I couldn't find any cooking utensils, but I found these, which should help light up the house," he said smiling a little. He extended them to her and, blushing a little, said, "Would you mind?" meaning that if she could light them.

    • Sephira pulled out several pieces of meat she had, wrapped in leaves to keep from bloodying her pack. She also had a few fruit they could eat. Beyond that, she only had a few herbs she could use to season the meat with, nothing to make a stew like she had planned.
She glanced up as she heard James come back, holding a few candles. She smiled at the slight pink spreading across his face as he asked her to light them, then sent her little flame over. Carefully, she lit a couple, just enough to allow them to see. She didn't light them all, though, figuring that would be a waste. After that, she exstinguished her little flame and looked down at the food she had pulled from her pack. "Looks like I'm frying," she said. Frying was the easiest for her to do anyways. She gathered up the broken pieces of furniture and laid them in the fireplace, then lit them. While she waited for the flames to catch properly, she started to pound some of her herbs into the meat. After a few minutes, she stuck them on the hearth, just outside of the flames' reach. Then she sat and watched them, enjoying the feel of the fire across her face.

      • While Sephira got the fire started, James walked around placing the lit candles in places where their light would be most useful. He then took the ones that weren't lit and put them back in the drawer. When he was done, he walked over to where Sephira was sitting in front of the fire and sat down beside her, raising his knees so that he could rest his head on them. Then he sighed happily and glanced at the beautiful girl beside him. The light from the fire made her features look more dramatic, and James thought how much they made her look like a powerful woman, a higher being, like a phoenix thought James smiling.

        • Sephira glanced side-long at James and wondered what he was thinking. By the expression on his face, he was thinking about something special. She smiled at him, but didn't ask what it was. Unless he shared it, it was his to enjoy. She turned back to the fire and stared into its depths. She wondered what her future would hold. She hoped that James would play a role in it, but he still hadn't asked her out on that date. This didn't count, as it was his house and her food they were cooking.
Unbidden, her thoughts turned to her former lover. He never asked her out on a date either. They had met when she had snuck up on him while he was training. Under her tutalage, his skills had grown. Thanks to her, he grew powerful enough to be a threat to her. And thanks to that blasted traitor Strattus, he had become one. Sephira shook her head vigiously. These were not thoughts to be had right now. The man was dead, his body devoured by the insects of the earth.
To prove to herself she had nothing to fear, Sephira reached over and took James' hand. "James, would you do me a favor? Would you call me Sephy?" Star straightened from where she lay and stared at the Stari with surprise.

          • When James felt the softness and warmth from Sephira's hand on his own a little color filled his cheeks, but mostly he enjoyed it. He was about to say something when she spoke first. "Would you call me Sephy?" Had he heard correctly? He glanced at her, curiosity palpitating in his eyes. Why would she want something like that? But then he decided if she wanted him to do it, there was no reason why he shouldn't. This was the beautiful girl that filled all of his writing as of late, the girl he thought to be more beautiful and dazzling than the sunrise. So he built up courage inside of him. He shifted on the floor to be looking at her more directly, and he didn't look down as he spoke.

"Sephira, I had no idea who you really were when we first met and I saved you that time on the field," he smiled making a little emphasis on the saving part. "I had no idea what I was getting into when we settled on that date. I had no idea how many problems it could cause, no idea how much work it would take to simply be alone with you...but, I also had no idea what a fabulous, beautiful, and amazing girl I'd stumbled upon. Everything about you is beautiful, your powers, your eyes, your name, I don't care if its Sephira or...or Sephy. I only care about you." He let his words sink in, the fire cackled beside them.
"Sephira...Sephy, I don't know who it is that broke your heart, I don't care, but I am going to make sure it doesn't stay broken, even if it means risking my life for you a millon times, I'll do it." He clasped her hand on his with the other, "I only now realize, I never really took you out on that date, so, Sephira, would you like to go out with me sometime?" He smiled kindly at her, anxious for her response in the inside, but kind and loving on the outside.

            • (Actually, I think they're callused, not soft...)

Sephira smiled shyly as James complimented her. She had always been told she was pretty, even by that blasted traitor Strattus. But her powers had always been dangerous, her name mundane. It filled her with pleasure to think James thought every part of her beautiful. She did flinch when he called her Sephy, but she steeled herself and was proud of herself when she didn't the second time.
She rubbed James' hand with her thumb. "Since I killed him, I have tried to forget my former lover. Until I met you, I have found that nigh impossible. But when I think of you, I do not see his shadow. I see only your shining brillance, brighter than even Lady Din on a cloudless day." She smiled up at him. "You cannot imagine how wonderful it feels. All my life have known darkness. The darkness of the forest, the darkness of Strattus, the darkness of Him. Your light blots it out, and my thoughts cannot stay black when you are near."
Sephira leaned over and gently kissed his lips. "I would be most delighted to go out with you, Jamesson," she said. Star stood and shook her coat, then left the room. Partially to give the two privacy, but also because she didn't care for the romantic tendies of humans.

              • (Shhh, it's a secret to all D8)

James' winked thoughtfully when she mentioned killing her former lover, but didn't give any other sign of finding that peculiar. He was flattered and flushed a bit when she compared him to Din and mentioned his "shining brilliance". It was sad, hearing about her dark past. He recalled when he had asked about it, and remembered shuddering at her response, but now was not the time to be sad, for she didn't seem sad; she seemed happy. To think she thought him to be the cause of the "light in her darkness" made him, in some way, ashamed, since he didn't believe he was as good as she painted him to be. Still, he perked up when she said yes and even more when she kissed him. It was as he had hoped it would be: perfect. He grinned at her and said jokingly, "I am delighted by your delight." Then, his face returning to his previous not-so-joking smile, he decided it would be OK for him to steal one small kiss, after all she had stolen it from him first. He leaned in non-aggressively and gently pressed his lips against hers, closing his eyes and hoping not to be slapped, barely even noticing the cheetah walking out of the room.

                • Sephira noticed Star leave and chuckled to herself. The cheetah was probably bored and left to find something more interesting to do. She was a little surprised when James kissed her. For a second she stiffened, then forced herself to relax and returned the kiss. She made certain to keep tight control of her emotions, knowing that too much of the happiness flowing in her would heat her body up so much she would burn James. She didn't realize, though, that she had heated up enough to feel warm to the young man.

                  • James enjoyed the kiss for a moment longer, happy that she hadn't hit him or worse. But suddenly he pulled back and looked at her worried. "You're hot," he said. Then he noticed how that sounded and added, "Like, you feel hot...not that you don't, you know, look hot! I mean, I'm not trying to be...I just wanted to..." He mentally slapped himself to shut up before he made this more of a mess. Finally, he spoke again, "Are you OK? Do you feel sick?" He put the back of his hand to her cheek, reassuring himself that he hadn't imagined feeling her hotter than usual. He tilted his head waiting for her response.

                    • Sephira looked up at James concerned when he pulled back from her with a worried expression. She laughed quietly as he struggled to find a way to word what was wrong, but she quickly deduced what it was. She patted his hand. "Don't worry, it's part of my gift. When my emotions are running high, my body warms up, sometimes to the point of scalding anyone who touches me. Usually it's when I'm angry, but I haven't been so happy in such a long time."
A pop from the fireplace reminded her and she quickly turned to the meat she had cooking. She pulled it away from the fire, her bare hands not even noticing the flames, and checked to make sure they were done, not raw or over-done. Thankfully, they were only partially burned, but still edible. Sephira handed some to James, careful to keep her skin from touching his in case it was still warm.

                      • James was taken aback when the girl reacted completely normally. He sighed with relief when she explained what it was and smiled as she tended to the meat. His mind kept going over her words. I haven't been so happy in such a long time... He decided he would have to make her happier more often. For now he nodded his thanks as he took the meat, ignoring the fact that it was still hot and that Sephira had grabbed it from the fire with her bare hands. In his mind that only made her that much cooler. He took a bite and closed his eyes as the flavor washed over his mouth. It wasn't bad, and he hadn't eaten much more than plants for a while which made it feel that much heavenlier. He swallowed the piece and opened his eyes grinning. "It is delicious!" he exclaimed.

                        • Sephira ate her food quickly, happy to see James enjoying his. She glanced around for Star, wondering if the cheetah had gotten her own food. Sephria wasn't too worried about her, Star was a cheetah after all. She could find food where she needed it, and she had learned not to eat certain animals in case they were owned by someone.
As she swallowed the last bite, Sephira licked the grease off her fingers, then leaned back on her palms, watching James. She smiled at him gently. "James, may I ask you a question?" Inwardly, she laughed at herself for phrasing it that way.

                          • James gulped down the rest of his meat and enjoyed the aftertaste on his mouth. He looked up when Sephira talked. "You mean a question apart from the one you just asked right? Yeah, go ahead," he smiled, glad to be able to joke a little without having to be worried all of the time. He licked grease on one of his fingers.

                            • Sephira grinned. Then she took a breathe and plunged ahead. "Why were you in that grave? Star said you were following someone's clues, but she said that she couldn't see or smell that person."
Star, perhaps sensing that the lovey-dovey stuff was over, crept back into the room. She walked over to the two by the fire and laid down next to Sephira, snuggling up to her side like an over-sized cat. The girl laid a hand on the cheetah's side, but kept her eyes on James.

                              • James shifted uncomfortably and eyed Star's cat-like actions. He wasn't sure how to respond and opened his mouth to see what would come out when he felt a hand on his arm and a voice hissing in his ear, It's alright, tell her... The feeling pushed the air out of his chest much like a punch would have done. He was frozen in shock for a second before blinking quickly, recovering from the hiss. Finally he struggled to find words and managed to say, "It's true, I was following someone." He hesitated for a second longer before continuing, not feeling very comfortable by admitting that he had seen a ghost who was called Melody, but something in the back of his head told him that Sephira was probably more open to believing him than anyone else, so it didn't feel all that wrong. "I was following a...a ghost."
