"Now, now," Calder gently chastised his companion. "You should take a page from your own book, dear. Sir, I am Calder, wandering physician and philosopher, and quite often lost for it." He smiled and bobbed his head, then placed the pipe between his lips and puffed on it for a bit before blowing the smoke out. He did feel an edge of nervousness about this stranger, much as he was sure Esperanza did. However, he refused to act on it. After all, his teeth made people feel nervous, with their sharp tips. And this man hadn't presented a reason to mistrust him, other than a sixth sense. So until given a reason to, Calder would treat him as any other Hylian.

Damon was not surprised at the defensive posture of the two. Everyone has a certain animalian instinct inside of them used to point out the abnormal. And if anyone was abnormal, it was Damon. It was obvious by their two encounters that they were educated, or at least wanted to appear so. People have the instinct to appear as who they want, Damon didn't know the truth behind these two, and since they seemed to be simply wandering travelers, looking for a truth in life they would most likely never find, Damon concluded that they were most likely a waste of his time in terms of interaction. But alas, he had to continue on, as simply walking away would do little but affirm the suspicions that both had of him. And now he had to hide up his monster inside and put on his regular cheery persona, it made him sick. Acting like someone he was not, but then again acting like himself would cause nothing but pain.
Sweet, delicious pain, feeding him as breast milk does an infant. Quieting his dark friend in the back of his mind, stopped him from murmuring sweet nothings into his ear. They had done what they needed to do only a few days ago, which means their dark friend shouldn't annoy them for another few days at least. Plenty of time to find out what to do.
"Excuse my manners!" Damon said, the cheery smile remaining on his face throughout this whole ordeal, "My name is Damon, no nicknames, just moved here and was hoping to meet some new people. Always a fun experience, that."
"Did I hear that you were a philosopher, Calder?" He said turning to the other, "Interesting, we seem to have a profound lack of academics in this world and I cheer you for pursuing your interests even when others shy away from it."

Esmeralda kept a sigh inside her and tried smiling at the newcomer instead. "Hello, Damon, it's nice to hear you don't turn your back at seekers of knowledge. Whatever brings a person like you to this village?" she asked. After some thought, she added, "My name is Esperanza, by the way. I apologize for the tense response earlier." She didn't know how to feel about the guy. But the night was growing longer, and she longed to get inside. If acting friendly to the stranger was what it took to advance the conversation, then she would do just that.

No problem!Damon cheerily responded. I can understand you being somewhat cautious, a stranger like me intruding and all.
And then, Damon thought about the question he was posed. Why was he here? Back in Kakariko. He had been raised here, he found Avalon here. This was where he had first learned to control his inner shadow, and also where it was first released. Damon was here to delve into his past, to reach his dark hands so far into its depths so that he could discover the hidden things that he was never meant to see the harsh light of the day. He had to find out his past, why he was like he was, and whose fault it was. The death of Avalon was a sharp kick in the shin for him, and one of the last things he was told to do was go back to where it all started, to find out both of their pasts. For what reason? Damon honestly had no idea. But he was determined to try, and delving into his past seemed a good distraction until further plans.
My wife died, Damon quickly replied It's kinda been a shock to me, and I was born in Kakariko. Thought maybe the good memories could cheer me up, get me back on my feet. Also, considering that this is where my family lives, this is one of my few options. Oh well, no need to speak of sad things, that hasn't helped anyone.

The manner of Damon's reply to her question made Esmeralda feel uneasy, but she decided not to act on it. There was no reason to question what she was being told, not at the moment at least. Attempting to be warm and apologetic in her response, she extended her arms and waved at the inn. "I am sorry to hear that, Damon. I still feel bad about my initial reaction, it was unwarranted, but I promise to make it up to you. Come, the inn looks welcoming. Share in our hearth and join our conversation, if it please you. I'm sure Calder would love to hear more about you, as would I." She smiled.

Calder felt a stab of sympathy for Damon. Being a widower could be difficult, especially when newly so. And having no one to lean on for support made it even more so. "Yes, do join us. Some interesting companions and good conversation will cheer you up." He smiled and led the way into the inn.
The young lady at the desk looked up and frowned in surprise as she saw the unusually colored Zora and feminine Goron in the company of a seemingly ordinary Hylian. "Can I help you?" she asked cautiously.
"Yes, we'd like a room please," Calder told her, bobbing his head and puffing his pipe.
"All together?" she asked with some surprise.
He frowned, looking somewhat thrown, then looked at his companions. "I've forgotten. Were we going to share?"

(Note: I really don't like how I was RPing Damon earlier, so I am scrapping some of his stuff. No idea if he will still be an actual sociopath, still working on it.)
A conversation would be wonderful right now, I've been on the road far too long. With that, Damon walked into the inn along with the others. It was a lively place today, the common room was loud and boisterous, full of drunken people come to forget their worries for a night. Damon had never been a big drinker, he had done it as a social occasion but had never had any motivation to lose himself in alcohol.
I don't mind sharing rooms, Damon said in response to the question. However, if that doesn't work out I have enough rupees to pay for my own room.

Esmeralda laughed lightly and looked at the other two. "I certainly don't mean you two any offense, but I think it'd be more to my liking to have a room of my own," she smiled, "though perhaps you two should share. The price would be lower, and the company far more enjoyable than a cold room to yourself I believe." She studied the lady at the desk. She was accustomed to receiving odd stares from strangers when they saw how she looked, and held no grudge to them, though it did hurt her when the looks turned to disdain rather than curiosity. However, the lady seemed only wondrous at the sight before her.

Damon did not mind whether he slept alone or not, to be honest, he knew his wallet was full of rupees, but then again he didn't know when he would ever make money again. Saving was a good idea. I'm fine with sharing a room, but be warned, I usually stay up later than most people. I won't distract you, unless you don't prefer a small candle and some pipe smoke. Damon had taken to reading more of late, famous books of tactics, military tactics to be precise. It had been his hobby back in Castle Town, and he didn't intend to stop pursuing his hobby because the town was burnt to the ground.

Calder laughed and waved his own pipe at Damon. "I do not mind, friend. I enjoy a pipe myself, although I'll admit that the night usually takes me fairly early on." He turned back to lady behind the desk. "If it's possible to accommodate us as such?"
She nodded. "It should be." She checked her keys and nodded. "Yes, although I've only one key for each room. You two will have to share it." She handed the keys over after they'd paid for the night, then stared after them as they headed off. Her family would not believe her when she told them about this.
Calder puffed on his pipe, then pulled it from his mouth and frowned at it. "Goddesses above, have I smoked it all already? Dearie me, it never lasts long anymore."

Damon held the key in his hand and walked slowly to his room alongside Calder. Calder was an interesting fellow, a zora smoking a pipe was a rare sight to him, and seemed to talk with an easy air of superiority, he definitely seemed intelligent. He stuck the key in the wooden door frame and opened the door with a creak, looking behind him.

"I have some leaf if you need of it, only have a small amount left from my stock back at Castle Town, but you're free to have it." Damon felt the leather pouch fastened to his belt, slightly dismayed at how empty it felt, and walked inside the small room.

Calder shook his head, chuckling, as Damon entered their room. "Sleep well, dear," he told Esperanza. "We'll see you in the morning." Then he entered the room himself. "Your offer is appreciated, friend, but I've no need. In fact, I will share with you my own mixture." He emptied his pipe in the fireplace and cleaned it with a cloth. Then he pulled out his pouch and began filling his pipe again. Once it was full, he handed the pouch to his companion and light his pipe. "I really shouldn't be indulging in a second smoke," he said with a sigh, happily puffing away.

Esmeralda smiled at the two and walked on to her own room. As she slipped inside she was glad to finally have some time to herself, though she was also glad to have had Calder to spend the whole day with. He was someone pleasant to talk to, she could tell, and it had been a simple but nice change from the stressed and arguably more aggressive days she'd had before. Feeling weariness drawing over her, she simply washed her face off and slipped into the soft bed that awaited her. She was used to the hard ground and rocks of the mountain, but she couldn't deny the feathers felt heavenly now. Her eyes closed and she was gone.

Damon happily accepted the cloth pouch, and opened it. He grabbed a pinchful of the leaf with one hand whilst grabbing his pipe in the other, resting the pouch in his lap. His pipe was an elaborate piece of wooden carving, the stem of the piece had carved vines along the edges and the pipe looked smooth as silk. In Damon's free time earlier that day he had spent lots of time polishing the wood, and he had not used it since. He also received his tamper from his pouch, and used it to slowly compress the leaf each time he added more, until the pipe was filled to the top with the leaf. Damon then lit his pipe and leaned back in the chair.

"Some say smoking is unhealthy," Damon responded after taking a draw on his pipe. "But I honestly believe it is perfectly fine as long as you aren't puffing on a pipe all day. And 2 pipes is certainly not too much." Damon chuckled as he finished his sentence.

Damon looked at his supplies he had set on the ground, and pulled out a book. The book had a title of hyrulian glyph's that read out "A history of advanced military tactics, by Onard Roberts

Damon pulled the book open and began to read the contents, puffing on his pipe as he did so.

Calder finished his pipe, and after bidding his room companion a fond goodnight, he retired to the bed. It had been a rather intriguing day, and he was pleased to have met Esperanza. She was a unique young Goron, and he hoped to spend quite a bit more time in her company in the future. Of course, his head was still rather sore from her knocking him out earlier, but he didn't believe in holding grudges. In fact, it was rather amusing, picturing the lady carrying his unconscious form through the village. What a scene they must have made! It was on this pleasant thought that he drifted to sleep.

His awakening, however, was not so pleasant. He was jolted away by a violent shaking, one that threw him from his bed to the floor, painfully bruising his knees. He looked away rapidly, trying to understand why the ground rumbled so under his feet. Had one of the goddesses appeared in the village to invoke her wrath? Was Death Mountain throwing more than its usual tantrum? He climbed shakily to his feet and began stumbling his way to the door. Before he reached it, the earth stabilized, and he found himself falling over again as the abrupt lack of motion upset his precarious balance. He quickly rose to his feet again and hasted out the room. He rushed to Esperanza's room and rapidly knocked on the door. "Esperanza! Are you alright in there?"
