Elwood popped one eye open. "Nope, not a nightmare then," he muttered as he began yawning and stretching. He sat up and looked at the wolf on his legs with a smile. He definitely liked him. He rubbed his eyes even though he had only been asleep for a couple of minutes. "So we're going now?" he asked while stifling yet another yawn. He looked at Midnight suspiciously, wondering if the wolf was ever going to wake up.

Sephira nodded. "And maybe you can tell me exactly what happened as we go." She whistled and Midnight jumped up. He glanced at her quizzically. "We're going. Come on." Happy to finally be on the move again, Midnight trotted to her side, a doggy grin on his face.

Elwood stood up once Midnight had and brushed off his tunic. "I can only tell you what I know," he said. He wondered how he was going to tell her anything. It had all been so painful, he wondered if he'd break down as he spoke. The sword imbedded in the man's back, tears and blood pouring from him. The pain he had felt as his heart broke. "Where do you want me to start?" he asked her walking a little bit ahead of her, now liking her much more since her angry mood had seemed to diminish.

Sephira frowned thoughtfully. She wanted to know how Elliot had died, but she had a feeling she would want more than that. Maybe with him meeting Elliot and James? Midnight glanced at her and she smiled down at him. "Tell me why you left the forest," she said. As she understood, Kokiri never left the forest if they could avoid it. Why he left might help her better understand what lead up to the meeting and, inevitably, the killing.

"Well, I've always wanted to see more of the world...but not like this. I didn't leave because I wanted to. Actually, I didn't leave, I was taken," Elwood responded. As he told his story the words became images in his mind, clips of what had happened. He saw himself, standing on the bridge looking out into the forest. He saw when the monsters hit him in the back of the head and then everything went black. "Be careful what you wish for, I guess," he muttered barely loud enough for her to hear. "You know I never realized how good the forest smells...not until I found out how it smells out here. It's all smoke, and lies, and death..." he got carried away, then returned to the point. "Anyways, some monsters hit me on the back of the head. I never even saw them. Next thing I know I woke up on the field, and my fairy was gone..." He thought for a moment and added, "Maybe this wouldn't have happened if my fairy had been with me..."

Tears sprang unbidden to Sephira's eyes. She agreed with Elwood, the forest was so sweet compared to the open stench of the towns of Hyrule. She could stand Hyrule Field, as it was still wild, but it didn't compare to her forest home. Sephira blinked rapidly a few times, but a tear slid down her cheek. She hoped Elwood didn't notice as she asked, "When you woke up, is that when you met Elliot?" It wouldn't surprise her one bit if the kindly merchant had stopped to see if he was okay.

The tears went unnoticed to Elwood's eyes which were looking over the surface of the lake as it glistened with the Sun and his mind went over the events of the day. He looked back up when Sephira asked him a question and noticed the path where the tear had fallen reflected the sunlight as well, but to his childish mind that was just the natural glow of such a pretty lady. He considered for a moment before answering. "Not immediately...I woke up and I was all alone. I had no idea where I was, and someone had left this beside me." He drew the Kokiri sword from his belt, but only enough for her to know what he was talking about. He didn't think she would take too kindly to the weapon that killed her friend. "I felt sick, even threw up. And then I felt cold. It was very weird, the forest is much cooler than this. But, it was a different kind of cold. The kind of chills you get when your friends are telling you a scary story. I rolled up and lay there for I don't know how long. Then he came. I had never seen him before, and his voice was so warm. The other boy was with him. They asked if I was alright. At first everything was looking up again. I had found a nice pair of people who seemed kind enough to help me get to the forest. But then, I lay eyes on him, and..." He was unable to continue. His voice was beginning to break and he had already answered her question so he would wait for another one.

Sephira laid a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder, forgetting that she was warmer than other people. She knew how difficult it could be, being seperated from everyone you knew. She, however, had had her two animal partners, and had left the forest on purpose. Elwood had been dumped into a world he didn't know, with no one to help him to understand it. Against her better judgment, she found herself sympathizing with the boy. She sighed inwardly. Gently, she asked, "What happened next?"

Elwood was surprised when she touched him. First he thought she was going to kill him right then and there, but then he noticed the hidden comfort behind the meaning of the hand. He was also surprised at how warm she was, and he wondered if it was because she was a Stari. With all this in mind, he sighed and started talking again. "I'm not really sure how or why it happened. For a moment my sight went black, and then I wasn't me. I mean obviously I was me but I wasn't me me, you know? I could see what was happening, but it was like looking at the street from a window. I guess the only way to put it is...I was trapped inside me, I guess. I've heard of something like that before. Procession or something like that. I didn't know it to be true. Whatever was controlling me, it...it attacked him. I tried to stop, I swear I really did! But, I couldn't. He tried reasoning with me, but as much as I tried to yell at him to run away he kept trying to stop me. And then...the boy came at me. He was blinded by rage or something, but whatever was controlling me just knocked him out. I don't even know how to fight!" Elwood heard the anger in his own voice as he retold the story and anger tears welled up inside his eyes. "And then he just ran to the boy, completely forgot I existed. I've never seen someone care so much for someone else. But, when he crouched down trying to wake the boy..." Tears spilled from his eyes and he stopped.

"That's when your possessor killed him," Sephira whispered. She was horrified at the story. She had also heard of being who could possess others. Her mind flicked to Melody, and she wondered if the ghost might know what had possessed Elwood. She made a note to ask her when they next met. Sephira wondered if she should allow the subject to die, knowing how much pain it was obviously causing the boy. But she had one more question. She stopped walking and knelt down in from of Elwood. She placed her hands on his shoulders, looked him in his eyes, and asked gently, "Do you know why the being wanted to kill Elliot?" Midnight turned back to look at the boy too.

Elwood stopped when she held him and looked her in the eye. He could see the same pain he was feeling reflected in her, except maybe it was even more in her. He wished he could tell her why, he wished he knew. But he didn't. He slowly shook his head, another tear falling from his eye. He sighed and when he finished, he remembered something. "I remember something else though," he said. He didn't know why, but his voice had dropped to a whisper. "When he was... When it was over, and I got back control from my body, something really weird happened. It was lightning, and it fell right in front of us. Except, it didn't set the field on fire, and I've never seen lightning be so precise. When it was gone, there was someone there...or something. He looked kind of human, but his head was completely bald, and his eyes were a fierce dark lightning blue. All over his face and head were horrible markings, black, making him even uglier. Apart from that he was an average man, not too tall or fat or short or skinny. He was wearing a dark tunic with black tights under it and black boots." It scared Elwood to even think about him. "He...he said I'd done a good job, and then began walking. The boy tried to confront him, but the man just waved his hand and the boy collapsed. But then, something incredible happened. A woman appeared in a flash of light between them. She spoke to the man, and he called her Mel or something. She said she was...dead, and then they struggled. But then she said something I didn't understand and he banished." He closed his eyes as he tried to remember more, but he couldn't. "After that I...I ran away, I was very scared." He opened them and looked at her again, "I'm sorry."

Sephira smiled gently and wiped some of his tears away with her hand. "That is enough. Thank you, Elwood." Inwardly, she wondered if it was Melody he had been talking about, and she made a note to hunt for the ghost when she had a chance. She had quite a few questions for the spirit, Sephira realized. She wondered how exactly she would be able to do that. After all, she had heard that ghosts appeared and disappeared at random.
She gave herself a mental shake and focused back on Elwood. "I really appreciate you telling me this, Elwood. Do you want to still come with me? It's up to you, since I now know you weren't responsible for the actual killing." She was a little surprised that she was willing to take him at his word, but she was. Maybe it was because of Midnight's reaction towards the boy. It wouldn't be the first time he judged correctly. Her mind flashed to her former lover, and how Midnight hadn't liked him. Oh how much pain she could have saved herself if she had payed attention to his sixth sense!

Elwood smiled at her understanding. He had been really afraid she wouldn't believe him, after all in her part of the world he was just a "child". But, she hadn't, and he liked her all the more for that. He nodded at her question. "I don't mind going, and it's not like I'm going to go anywhere if I don't," he smiled sadly. Suddenly, his eyes widened as he remembered something more. "Hold on, I think I heard something else. The Mel girl...or ghost, I don't know, she said something. A name. I'm not sure if she was talking about the man or not, but..." he shrugged. He was trying really hard to make himself useful, it was the least he could do to try and help mend his mistakes.

Sephira smiled. It was a brave thing for him to do, choosing to come with her. After all, she was still going to be taking him to Rose. The Gerudo would want to hear the story from the horse's mouth, so to speak. She patted Elwood's shoulder. "If you remember it, tell me, please. But don't try too hard. I've heard that your brain can over-heat and explode if you do," she teased. She stood and waited to see if the boy was ready to keep going. She also glanced at Midnight. The wolf's sixth sense might be able to detect Melody. She hoped he'd let her know when he did, since she was starting to get really curious about the spirit.

Elwood gave a little laugh, although in his mind he wondered if she was really joking about the brain thing. "I remember. It was Krea. I think it was more of a nickname, but I have no way of knowing." After a couple of deep breaths he began walking again, now a little less worried about dying. Not completely though, since Sephira had yelled to the man from before something about a "wife" and he was sure she was going to be angry about the guy dying.
Melody silently floated to be near the two. She had been listening to their conversation for a while, and decided it was time to join them. She crouched down to level with the wolf and whispered, "Boo."
