Gyan sighed with relief (again) on the inside. He was expecting more of an argument. "Well, I haven't really figured out a cost yet, and I don't have 20 of these things...." Gyan said, pointing at his gauntlet. "But whatever, I can make them in a day. In fact, why don't you keep that one for free, maybe have some guards try it out, and when I come back tomorrow with the 20 and the blueprints, we can negotiate a price. Would that be okay, sir?" Gyan sured hoped it would.Comment

Kairu's jaw dropped, "You mean, I loved Ganondorf's daughter? I was intimate with a famous family?!" Kairu thought for a moment and looked at Malina, "Well can't say I'd blame myself. At least I pick em good," Kairu said laughing to himself.

"That'd be wonderful...," Adriel said hoping to get the man's name. He felt that Gyan might even be accurate in his assumption that it could help win the war. After all, this is new technology to everyone, it'd definitely give Labrynna an edge in the conflict, and not just because they were talking swords.sigpic

Malina followed the conversation carefully, making careful notes on her parchment. She was glad that Kairu did have a proper lover, not one he was attracted to by magic. However, she was a little concerned at how possessive that lover was. She sounded almost desperate for Kairu to remember, to love her. But that might be Malina's imagination. She wasn't exactly good at following people's body language or vocal tones. Although she should be, if she wanted to eventually rule Labrynna.
Focus, girl, before you lose track completely, she ordered herself. "Hold on a second, please," she said, interrupting the two. "Kairu, you didn't tell me you were swearing allegiance to Labrynna. All you did was ask my father to court me. That doesn't count as a swearing in." Oh, shoot. Did I really just tell his girlfriend we're courting? Gyan stared at Adriel awkwardly for two seconds before he realized the Baron wanted his name. "Gyan. My name is Gyan, sir. People like to call me an engineer, an inventor, and a scientist. But I just use the word 'polymath' to sum it up." Gyan paused and thought about what he should say for a second. Maybe I can..... "If you like this contraption enough, I'd be more than happy to continue inventing things for the good of the kingdom." Gyan slapped himself mentally. That setence could lead me one of two ways...either coming off desperate, or having the desired effect....Comment

"Oh, how cute Kairu, you're courting. It's not very smart to go out and get a girlfriend when you can't remember anything," Ryli started. "Your Majesty, I'm very sorry for all of this. It must be very confusing. Kairu and I have been together for awhile now... I thought we were in love, but now it seems that he doesn't care about me at all. I mean you no disrespect for arguing in your presence, this is just something I need to get out," she said to the princess, a gentle, apologetic smile crossing her lips.
Then she rounded on Kairu. "Oh, you 'pick em good' do you? You're just happy you were with someone famous? That's all that means to you? You're a pig. You're more of a womanizer than I ever realized and I feel stupid for trusting you in the first place. I should have known when I saw how angry your wife was that you would never be faithful to me. Just for your added information, we really weren't that intimate either and it's really messed up to assume what kind of person I am when you can't remember." As she spoke, Ryli felt herself heating up again. She had changed a lot in the time she had been alone. Before, all she would have done was try to get him back. Now, she didn't know why she wanted him in the first place.Comment

Kairu started to cry, "Look, you probably don't know how I feel. I'll be honest with you. The more I talk the more familiar you become. Your name first started it, but I just cannot recollect anything except the feelings that you say I should have. As for Malina, I can't help it. I just woke up and I was immediately infatuated. Please believe me...," Kairu pleaded as more tears fell from his eyes.
MEANWHILE
"Gyan, if you'd like, I can employ you as a member of the Royal Court of Labrynna. You'd serve as a 'polymath' as you wish your title to be, however, your formal title will be 'architect'. I will also grant you, and your family, housing here in the palace, if you wish as well as a payment to your services after every invention. If you wish, we may discuss terms of your payment now, or wait until you've made final decisions on the matter."sigpic

Malina sighed. "That would be my fault." She faced Ryli. "I used a potion to bring him back to life, hoping that we could reverse whatever damage his death had done to our relationship with Hyrule. However, I didn't see that one side-effects of the potion was for him to become infatuated with me, and I'm really sorry for that." She picked up her potion book and started leafing through it again. "I could probably find something to undo it, or maybe..." She paused as she spotted something in the book and turned back to the page.

Ryli should have been moved by the tears, but she wasn't. That wasn't her anymore. She did cool down and was able to get her temper under control, however. "If you are starting to remember, and you do want to be with me, you cannot be with her. I am not going to allow you to be in a relationship with me AND somebody else. I would rather be alone than in a three-way romance," she said, not unkindly.
She turned and smiled sweetly at the princess. "I do not blame you for this. I'm sure you really were just trying to help him. Either way though, he's going to have to choose. I'm not quite that good with sharing," she said with her eyes sparkling with held-back laughter. Her old smile returned. "Thank you. Hopefully we can get this all sorted out. If not, we could make new memories," Ryli said and hugged him. She was thrilled that he had chosen her, but part of her was still worried. She really didn't like how thrilled he seemed that she was, technically, a princess herself. Part of her wondered if that, along with her appearance, was all he liked about her in the first place.Comment

Kairu just remembered Malina asked him a question, "My allergies? I don't think I have any. None that I've ever known or experienced. But who knows? Ryli, suppose I never do remember my memories, I'd still love to make new memories with you."sigpic

Malina stood. "Then I think I might have found something to help you get your memory back." She glanced down at the book, mouthing the names of the different ingredients to herself. Then she looked up and smiled. "I can find all of these in our gardens, so it shouldn't take long to whip up." She set the book back down on the table, leaving it open to the page. "It could be risky, though, if you're allergic to any of these. Are you willing to try it anyways?" She looked at Ryli as she asked the question, tapping the caution at the bottom of the entry. After all, the dark-skinned girl might know more about Kairu's allergies, and she would have to be willing to risk losing the man altogether in the attempt.
She was glad, of course, that Kairu had chosen Ryli instead of herself. She didn't feel she was ready to be courted yet. However, she also liked being flirted with, no matter how much she denied it to herself. Just wait, she told herself. Gyan thought about Adriel's offer for a moment. "You know, I'd rather wait until I talk with my family about it. Some of them might have some reservations against leaving the house...." And some of them I don't want to come....but they don't live with me. Gyan wanted to see how the sun had progressed since he had started this conversation, but he didn't want to look around like a fool. Maybe a time telling device would be his next invention. That would require some serious work... "May I take my leave now, sir?" Gyan said, not trying to sound like he wanted to leave.Comment
