Kaida nodded and headed east. It was easy enough for her, as she had learned how to navigate while with the pirates. She could find east easily, whether it was day or night.
It was a quiet walk, and Kaida enjoyed it. With Zarola trailing behind her and Donovan at her side, she didn't feel lonely. She hummed a little, and she made small talk with Donovan when he wanted to talk, but otherwise, she was fairly quiet. She liked the quiet. It let her think, something that she especially liked when on a task. Since she was on a personal trip, it wasn't as important to scheme as she was used to.
Kaida didn't even noticed the time, or where they were, until Donovan said something. It was lucky he did, she had almost run into a tree. She blinked and refocused, glancing around to take in her surroundings. She sighed. "Alright," she told Donovan. She pulled her breastplate off and laid down near a tree, pillowing her head on the armor as usual. Zarola laid down next to her, purring faintly. Kaida ran a hand down the panther's side as she munched an apple she pulled from her pack. When she finished the fruit, she tossed the core into the forest, then closed her eyes and attempted to fall asleep.

Donovan sat against a tree and finished eating some Palace bread he had snuck in his pocket form lunch, and like usual, he was quickly put to sleep by the calm night. He was thinking of asking Kaida about what she knew about the Sheikah to see if he could get a step closer, but figured that since she was also Terminan, she probably wouldn't know much either.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Although the sun was hidden far behind all the trees that continued to the east, Donovan was still woken up by the morning sunlight. He is a pretty light sleeper, even if he can fall asleep so fast. He stood up and stretched, and his sleep was different than usual, as he usually used moss to make a naturally comfortable bed. And something else was different about the morning--something was missing. He Donovan just sensed something in the world was empty. Even if he couldn't quite see the sun, from where the light was brightest, he estimated it was about 7 in the morning. And he realized what was missing: He didn't hear a bell ring in the morning, something he was so used to back in Termina. In Termina, he could hear the bell from just about anywhere, even deep in the swamp. He looked over at where Kaida had been sleeping to see if she was awake too. He had to admit, it would be harder to wake up without the bell, but he seemed to automatically wake up at that time anyways.

Kaida sighed and opened her eyes. She could hear birdsong, but she couldn't hear the ringing bong of the clock tower. "What time is it?" she murmered as she sat up. She rubbed the back of her neck. "I've been sleeping on that thing too much," she muttered, glaring at her breastplate. She sighed and glanced around. The panther was gone, although that didn't surprise Kaida. Zarola would have woken at almost daybreak and probably gone hunting. Donovan was sitting near-by, watching her. She gave him a sleepy smile. "Good morning, Donovan. What's for breakfast?"

"I grabbed some food on the way out of that Palace," Donovan said as he dropped a pouch on the grass. "Bread and some fruit. We can hunt down something for lunch." Donovan reached down and grabbed an apple from the bag. He went over to lean on his tree and began eating the apple. "So we're gonna keep going east after eating?"

Kaida reached over and grabbed the pack. She siphoned through it and pulled out a pastry, which she procceeded to munch. "Sure, east sounds good," she said through a mouthful. She swallowed. "Maybe head a little north too. Don't want to end up at the sea on accident."

"Alrighty then," Donovan tossed his stem into a bush after eating the apple and picked up the food bag. "Let's go." And he began leading towards the sun, and slightly to the left.. "Wonder if my little song works around here." He whipped out his harp and the Bremen Mask just to make sure he played well, and began plucking the strings as he walked, a joyful tune rising into the forest air. He played the alteration of his summoning song that worked best in the forest. Throughout his past years in Termina's wilderness, he learned that different versions of the song worked better in different environments--forest, sea, mountains. But there was one place where the song barely worked for him. In Ikana. The song never works for summoning the undead, but he would sometimes get a few rodents following him. As he swayed along, beneath the trees, animals did follow him, just like in good old Termina. First, four squerril buddies, then some birds flying overhead, then more and more animals kept adding on, until Donovan felt like a freak and purposely messed up in the song so the animals all ran away. "That was a lot more than I had expected," Donovan gasped and he put his mask and harp back in his bag. More animals followed him than they had ever followed him in Termina, so the forest was obviously more abundant in life than anywhere in Termina, not that there wasn't a ton in Termina also. "Sorry about that." Donovan chuckled as they continued walking.

Kaida raised an eyebrow as Donovan started playing the harp. It was an unusual mask he put on, and she was afraid the noise might attract company. It did, although not the kind she was expecting. Her eyes widened at all the squirrels and birds and rabbits, and she thought she saw some deer bounding farther in the shadows. Her mouth gaped at her companion, even after he stopped. It wasn't until Zarola bumped her knee that she closed her mouth. Then she smiled. "You play really well. I play a flute sometimes, although I rarely feel safe enough to do it. After all, an assissin is seen if she plays, and a bounty hunter's cool composure is shattered when she sings." She shrugged her shoulders. The real reason was that she didn't like to play where other ears could hear.

"It's not like you're on a mission or anything right now, are you?" Donovan asked Kaida, walking beside her. "C'mon and take it out. What songs do you play?" Donovan truly missed the feeling of playing a duet. The last time he played one was back when he was a kid, playing with his Sheikah guardian. After that, one time Kuome heard him playing his harp and joined in with her voice, but her old, dry voice barely let her talk, let alone sing.

Kaida frowned. "No, I'm not on a mission, but being a mercenary has taught be to always be careful. You never know what ears could be lurking around here, or how friendly they are." Unconsiously, her hand touched the flute tucked in her belt. It stayed there because she had tied it in place, but she preferred to have it tucked in rather than banging against her leg as she walked. As for what songs she knew, none that were official. Oh, she could copy a tune she heard rather easily, but she preferred to play songs she had come up with herself.

"What's the use in your flute if you're too worried to play it?" Donovan urged Kaida. "Nobody has come after me yet." He strummed and plucked a song he made earlier that year. "And if some unknown ears were listening, either they would think you sound great and not bother you so they can keep listening, or you'll sound so terrible it'll scare them away."

Kaida sighed and untied the flute. She slipped it from her belt and held it to her lips. She listened to Donovan's song, and in a minute, started to play its duplicate on her flute. It was alright, but Kaida felt that it was a little plain having two beautiful instruments blending together so perfectly. So gradually, she changed her song. It sounded better that way, and slowly, Kaida relaxed.

Donovan paced along the forest with Kaida, their melody and harmony drifting through the trees. They kept playing for a little while until sunlight flooded Donovan's eyesight. He felt a bit warmer and looked up ahead. They weren't in the forest anymore. The trees were now behind him, and Donovan hoped he would return sometime in his future. For now, he looked in front of him. Mountains. Not like anything he had seen before--far too steep to climb, unlike Termina's mountains. There was a cave in front of them though, which seemed like their only hope at getting up top. He looked over at Kaida. "Wanna go take a look?" He asked.

Kaida panted slightly as she stopped playing. It was difficult to walk and play at once, especially since she had to avoid tree roots and other plants that attempted to trip her. She eyed the mountain. It would be simple enough to climb, she supposed, although she could tell some of the footholds would be uncertain. She dropped her gaze to the cave. She examined it critically, then shrugged. "Sure, might as well." She tucked her flute back in her belt, retied its fastenings, then led the way, Zarola at her heels.

Donovan followed closely behind Kaida, and started to feel a bit of unease. He had been in caves before--they werent too hard to find back in Termina's mountains--but he still had always felt funny in them. He could easily get all the monsters on his good side, but anyone could get lost, or the ground above them could collapse and they could be forgotten forever. He never had a reason to stay in a cave for long anyways. Soon enough, their depth in the cave made everything go pitch-black. His eyes adjusted as well as they could, but it was still hard to be sure if he was near Kaida, besides her quiet footsteps. He grabbed her hand. Not that he was scared, but because it was so dark and he was worried of losing track of her. "I've never seen such darkness..." He nearly whispered. It seemed nearly impossible to keep the Panther. It was so black it was basically invisible, and it's paws made no sound no matter how quiet the cave was. Darkness is the main reason Donovan disliked caves. It was too easy to get lost, or bump into something or trip. He had also heard of a traveler who fell in a hole in a cave. Random holes steep enough to kill someone in the middle of a cave seemed impossible, but in the darkness you can't see what's coming, so Donovan made sure he partially believed the story. He does that with lots of bizarre stories he hears--part of him believes it while another part thinks more realistically, because you can never be sure in Termina. Or in this case Labrynna. Donovan wished they could get some kind of torch somehow, but from what he knew it was impossible with what resources they had.

Kaida inched along the cave. She didn't mind darkness, but she knew enough about caves to be careful. She was a little surprised when Donovan grabbed her hand, but understood his reasons for it. After all, she was making sure Zarola's fur brushed her leg so that she wouldn't lose the panther. As an animal, Zarola would be able to find her way through the cave without running into any stagmites or anything. This was one of the reasons Kaida was really pleased she had bought the panther.
She gave Donovan's hand a gentle squeeze. "Niether have I," she said, her voice echoing around the cavern, "but we'll be alright. Just stay near me. Zarola won't lead us wrong." Thinking about it, she wondered if she had a torch or something in her pack. Most likely not, as she rarely ever needed one. The places she prowled were usually light, either by torchlight while inside, or by sun or moon while outside. She didn't spend much time in caves. They tended to be too creepy for her.

(There's a Goron city in these caves. Are we going to have them meet them or circumvent it?)
