(Yeah, most ships aren't large enough for everyone to have their own quarters. Usually every one bunks together in the hold, while the captain and sometimes the first mate have their own cabins. Each area in the hold can be separated, though, giving the semblance of having separate quarters.
And I think the latrine is usually anywhere over the side of the boat. :P)

Tyra watched as first Felix, then slowly the rest of her crew filed onto the deck of the ship for supper. She smiled as they sat down and started chatting, waiting for her to take her place. My family, she thought with pride. She was their sister, their friend, their captain. Even their mother, she felt sometimes. She had led them into danger's mouth and back out again.
Now time for the best adventure yet, she thought as she made her way to join her crew.
She stood behind her chair and waited for them to take notice of her and quiet before speaking. "Tonight we sail for a land that none in Logata have ever sailed to before. For all we know, it could easily be a myth, and the charts we have little more than a child's doodling. But they were stolen from Rhykim himself, so I doubt very much they are false. So we will sail for lands unknown, to take back riches that never before have been beheld by Logatan eyes."
She turned to the new members. "You have just joined a crew today, but more than that, you have joined a family. You are part of the crew of the Sea Queen. You will start on the bottom, as every crew member must when coming aboard a ship for the first time, but your roles will be every bit as important as anyone else's. Do your jobs, do them well, and you will find yourselves rich beyond compare when we return."
She lifted her mug to her companions. "To family. May our bonds keep us afloat, and carry us to the new lands and home again!"

Alwin watched the group in their celebration, and gave a soft sigh. He never had this kind of comradery... not even back when he was in charge of (insert name of place here... I forget). Even though he could tell that some of them were not completely trusting of each other, he knew that, for now at least, they were happy.

      Dean threw up.
      Urgh, why the sea?
      Sea trip, sea sick.
Bob just gave a small laugh as he watched the landlubber throw up over the side again. It would take some time, but Dean would get used to all of this. The cat let the waves of the boat lull him to sleep...

When nobody was looking, Corin sneakily transferred a bottle of whiskey into his mug. He had done it many times before and grew to like the taste, as strong as it was. Sometimes his fellow crew members believed that he bought some apple juice from the market, and other times Tyra slipped it from his hands as if she were his mother.
He raised his mug when his sister told a speech. "Aye, Cap!" he cheered before gulping down a mouthful of whi--apple juice. With that, he grabbed a fork and began wolfing down the mound of chili from his plate.

Zulo carefully ate a fork of beans, making sure he didn't get burned. It tasted weird--not great, but not that bad either.
"So what have you guys heard about this new island so far?" he asked Zaria, still uneducated about the voyage they were about to begin.

Zaria swallowed a bite of dinner. "Not much, but if Rhykim had them, they must be something important. I'm willing he's plundered more ships and stolen their goods than I've got feathers." She took another bite of rice and looked up at the sky. "He's got quite the army to do a bit of his dirty work too. Even if these maps are all bogus, it'll give you and the other new crew members a chance to become accustomed to the sea. Don't expect anybody to make your life easy." She smirked at Zulo. "Especially not me, since we'll be working together."

Felix smiled at Tyra's speech. He prepared her plate with special care and brought it over to her seat. "Mighty good speech, captain. Hope you're hungry, you need your energy before we set sail," he mentioned as he set it down. He gave a respectful nod and wink and then moved over to his own place, a bit separated from the rest, but not too much that he couldn't talk with them. Glad to see everyone digging in, he got into his own plate.
Deann listened to everyone chatting around him, and wondered what sort of work Tyra had in mind, and what adventures were to follow this evening. He ate in silence.
Jasin enjoyed his food now, which tasted just as good as he had thought it would when he smelled it. Finally pleasing his stomach, his mind once again focused on thoughts of the weapons. He should get back to work as soon as they set sail.

Tyra smiled her thanks to Felix as he gave her a plate. "You always take care of me," she laughed before digging in. She listened to her two Rito talking as she spooned the food down, and chuckled at Zaria's comment. "Nothing's ever easy for a crewmate, Hawk," she said. "We all have our share of the work to do, and we all better get it done. Less risk for everyone else." She jabbed her spoon towards Zulo. "And don't let me hear ya complaining that something's a waste of time. There's a reason for every task, and while some might have more obvious uses than others, not a single one is pointless, ya hear?"

Zulo calmly continued eating dinner as he listened to Zaria. He silently chuckled to himself, hoping the last few things she said weren't anything to worry about. He believed it was very possible that the land they were going to look for did exist. Maybe he would have been more skeptical if he had known more about the ocean. The only part of the world he was familiar with was Clearcliff, so the rest of the world was a mystery, especially the ocean. "I'm sure I have a lot to learn," he said to Zaria. "I've never done anything like this before. When I woke up this morning I had no idea I would end up here." It was amazing what his day had turned into, and Zulo still had no interest in going back home. When he looked to the north, where Clearcliff must have been, the horizon was blocked by Falconmill's torch lit buildings, but he knew how far away the valley was. He hadn't really payed attention to it, but his wings had tired out from all his flying.

Dean watched the ship, "What are they doing?" he became concerned,a s he hadn't heard anything from Alwin yet.
Bob squinted at the ship, Eating, I think. He said, We should probably do the same. Dean grabbed a little bit of food from his bag and kept watching the ship, not even glancing down to see what he grabbed.

Alwin decided to peek inside one of the barrels around him. He saw one full of hardtack and, grabbing it, took a bite.

Zaria clapped a hand on Zulo's shoulder, giving a laugh. Surely another Rito will do good on the ship. No offense to you or the crew, Cap'n." She watched Falconmill slowly light up, warding off the night. "Say goodbye to the land for a while, boy. An' be ready for work as soon as the crew rises. You're literate, aren't you boy?" She picked at the rest of her food, more interested on how much work she had to do with the fledgling, so to speak, than what was left of her dinner.

Zulo watched Falconmill quiet down as night covered Logata when Zaria told him to say his goodbyes. It hadn't quite settled in yet how long he would be gone. He would certainly return one day, he just couldn't know when that would be. What was he doing on a ship preparing to sail so far away anyways? His mind had been so hazed from everything that had happened that day that he wasn't so sure, he just knew he wanted to. Maybe because it was such a unique experience. Or maybe the hope of discovering a whole new land.
Water calmly washed against the Sea Queen's hull and light from the moon shimmered across the glassy ocean. Bright stars began to poke through the dark sky. The only sound was the friendly hum of conversations and silverware on the ship's deck. Zulo admired the beauty of the night on the water so much that he almost missed Zaria's question. "Uh, I think so," he replied when she asked if he was literate. "I mean, as long as we read the same alphabet."

Zaria choked on her dinner, and the air she sucked in was let out in a laugh. "The same alphabet!" she cried. "Boy, you're beginning to grow on me. Tyra, you picked a good one this time around, I'll make a man out of him." She cracked a grin. "I might even go easy on you!" She snickered a moment, before adding, "But no, Boy, expect early rising and late resting, you're being put to good work here."

Zulo felt his cheeks warm up in embarrassment at Zaria's outburst about his comment. Apparently she didn't need to consider whether they read and wrote the same or not. He had met many Ritos back home, but none were quite like this one. She was louder than most, and it made him feel a bit uncomfortable, but she was still okay. At least she was getting to like him. He wasn't too excited when she mentioned early rising, as in Clearcliff he could do all the resting he wanted. He figured it would be good for him as much as he disliked the idea. "What exactly do I get out of this work?" he asked. It felt a bit funny asking it, as he should have asked before he joined them, but he was dying to know what kind of treasure these sailors found along their voyages.

Corin never started talking until he was done enjoying his meal. With his plate emptied, he washed it all down with the rest of his "apple juice". He chimed in when he heard the Rito boy ask about payment. "What do ya think ya get out of it, mate?" he blurted out, a bit worked up by his drink. "Gold! Pounds of it, more than you'd ever imagine! Look at this--" Corin reached down and pulled out his gleaming golden cutlass. "Pure gold." He paused as he looked down his blade. "That reminds me. How well are ye with a weapon?" He slipped his cutlass back into his belt slot. No one liked weapons out at the dinner table.

"Decent," Zulo answered. He got a bit nervous when the boy whipped out the cutlass. "I mean, with my bow. I can't say I'm familiar with swordfighting." He was a bit worried that they would make him learn how to use a sword. He had never liked close combat, instead he liked keeping safe and attacking from a distance with arrows. With his skill in both flight and the bow, he never thought it would be necessary for him to use a sword.

"Well, someone oughta teach ya." Corin told Zulo. "I could start teachin' ya sometime soon. And if yer ever interested in knives, Zaria here knows all about that."

"Aye, I've got twin sets of blades." Honestly, she'd left them with her other belongings below deck. A dumb move on her part, considering she'd checked out a couple seedy bars to hear the local rumors. Not that it mattered at this point in time, though. "Maybe part of your training will be showing us just how well you handle sparring." She smiled to herself, eager to see how much of an asset the new boy would be. With more hands on deck, there was less work on one person, as it could be spread around more.

Alwin peeked through the barrels at them. They were close... a little close for comfort. He held his breath, hoping to not be noticed.

Dean and Bob saw them talking near Alwin's barrels, and so they watched closely, ready to do... well, they didn't know what, but something- when this happened.

Tyra smiled as her crew talked away cheerfully. She did have to admit that Zulo's question was funny, but it was an understandable one. What did one get out of being a member of a crew? Her brother mentioned the obvious one, but there were other things as well. After all, he'd be getting the knowledge of how to sail, and from Zaria he'd learn how to navigate with little more than the stars as his guide. He'd also get stronger having to haul away with the sheets and sails, or pulling the oars when they had no wind or current to push them along. He'd learn to tell an enemy flag from a ship to prey on, and what all the different flags mean. He'd also, apparently, learn how to use a new weapon, although he didn't strike her as a sword fighter.
"Ya should learn some sort of close-ranged weapon, in case ya have ta fight at sea," she said aloud. "Fair though she seems, the sea is a fickle woman, and the bouncing of waves can upset yer shot. That's why we use such big ammer in our cannon, more likely to hit what we're aiming fer." She looked the Rito up and down. "Ya could learn how ta be a sword fighter like me and my brother, but ya don't seem to have that kind of style. Yer too slim to really hope ta have that kind of balance and strength to fight on moving ships or high in the ropes like we need ta. So I'd suggest you find a quicker, more nimble weapon. Hawk's definitely a skilled knifer, you could learn to fight like that, ifn ya want ter."

(She sounds more like a country bumpkin than a sea pirate when I read her accent. XD)
