I Prefer We Call It Aggressive Negotiations

Endin sat at the fire with a group of Rhykim's men, gesturing wildly with some kind of meat-its origins unknown-roasted on a stake. "And then the bartender, he says, you ain't here to hunt dragons, are you?"
The joke got a fair amount of laughs, though nowhere near what it would have gotten normally. The sadist's men were a better audience than expected, but not by much.
He saw the sadist approaching the campfire and quickly stood up. "General. The scouts, them over there-he pointed clumsily with his dinner-they say we'll make it ta Silvervale in an hour's march if we leave a' dawn."

Everyone, I'm so sorry I haven't been on. My life's kinda been a mess and I haven't really been able to.

    (That's okay, Theo. )

Amaya frowned at Endin's words. He sounded drunk again. What was his deal? Hadn't he recieved proper training when he joined the former king's army? She looked at the Stari in her force. They were seeing to their weapons and cheetah partners, just as they had been trained to. There was little talking or joking going on between them, except quiet murmuring to each other. The Logatans, on the other hand, were a lot more rowdy by comparison. If they weren't on a mission, and an important one at that, she'd probably prefer the antics of the Logatans. But they were approaching enemy territory, with who knew how many eyes turned there way. They should be quiet, getting ready for their up-coming battle, even if there wasn't going to be an actual battle.
Solar nudged her leg. "Calm down. You shouldn't get yourself riled up because they have recieved looser training than you."
The Stari scowled. "They should still be better than this," she said, careful to speak in the cheetah's language, not Logatan. "They should be acting as though they are about to head to battle, not leaving it victorious." Switching back to Logatan, she said to Endin, "Very well. I have already set up a schedual for sentries, so we can turn in without any worries." Naturally, she had chosen mostly Stari to be sentries, as she knew they would have no adverse affects from losing hours of sleep, and they had a second pair of eyes from their cheetah partners.

Endin saw her scowl and whisper to the oversized cat next to her in a strange, feline voice. The hair on the back of his neck lifted and Endin reflexively moved his hand closer to the knife sheathed in his cloak before getting a hold of himself. He saw her look over his shoulder at the group of Logateans, judging them and talking the cat.
It made a noise indistinguishable from any other cat noise, as far as he could tell, but she took it as an answer. The sadist outlined her plan for sentries and Endin nodded along with it. Guards would be comforting, but he still knew there wasn't much sleep in store for him tonight.
He turned and looked at the men with her. "They need this. I mean, yeah, they're loud n' unprepared n' drunk, but this way there's no worry about dyin' tomorrow. Give 'em a night of living. The hangover'll be gone by morning."

-Might want to mention how Endin's usually isn't.

Amaya snorted. "Like yours always is?" she asks, her voice showing her complete disdain for such things. "By tomorrow, they will be lazier than they already are, and groaning from head pains. They will be unfit for much anything, most especially fighting." Solar nudged her, attempting to calm her down, but instead, she took a different approach. "Fear of dying will keep them alive. If they fear the end of their life, they will do whatever it takes to keep themselves from dying."
You have no fear, yet you have not died, Solar commented.
"Just because I have the lust for battle and blood doesn't mean I don't fear death," she snapped at the cheetah. "Death is natural; if it's my time to die, then I shall die. Until then, I will keep my weapons sharp and my mind even sharper."

(My brother is almost through making a Stari character that he was wanting to slip in among the troops. Mind if we wait a bit for him?)

Endin shifted uncomfortably. "I got my reasons, 'kay?. You don't want to see me sober." He processed her words for a half-minute. "But, I see what ya' mean. I'll tell my men curfew has started.
'They don't deserve a drink anyway. They laugh at my jests and share their food, but I can't forget. These are Rhykim's mutts. Let them starve and die. I should kill them myself. Kill them now. No! They're monsters, I swore to slay monsters. You shared a drink with them, stop this. Justice must come. No, no it doesn't. Not tonight.'
The gem under his shirt started to light up, flickering wildly. Endin grabbed hold of and sanity and calmed down, turning towards his section of the camp. "See y' at dawn, Amaya. We've a war to fight."

Narus and Felgrand watched as the Logatans dispersed to their tents, along with most of the Stari. He smirked as he watched the leader, Endin, staggered to his tent. Pathetic, he thought.
He walked to Amaya, who was nearly at the entrance of her own tent and hadn't noticed him yet. He stopped a few paces away from her, crossing his arms as he regarded her coldly. Felgrand sat next to him as he called out to her, his voice cold as ice. "Hello, Amaya. How long has it been since you left me? 6 years? 7?" He scowled. " Now look at you. A general, huh? You seem to be pretty cushy with Rhykim." He spat the last word out with such contempt, it was as if the name was poisonous.

Amaya snorted softly at Endin and turned, heading towards her tent. Solar at her heels. "Can you believe him?" she muttered to the cheetah. "One of these, someone's going to stick a knife in him."
"Namely, you, right?" Solar answered back.
Amaya shrugged, but didn't get a chance to respond as someone called out to her. She whirled, her temper flaring in response to the aggressive tone. She glared at the man before, then started as she realized it was a Stari. She hadn't seen many of her tribespeople in nearly ten years, and when they had joined with Rhykim's forces, she hadn't bothered much with getting reacquainted. She had never been particularly close with any of them anyways. So who was this?
"I don't know who filled your pants with brambles, but I won't stand for insults on Master Rhykim. I don't know which Stari you are, so I'll let it slide this once. But if catch you mouthing him off again, I'll show you just how I became his general." Her hands rested on her waterskin and sword hilt.

Narus's glare intensified. "Do you really not remember me, Amaya? I'm not surprised, considering how long it's been," he said, putting his left hand on his katana. "And don't bother drawing your weapons. You know I've always been better at combat than you are."

Amaya laughed as she realized who it was. "You haven't battled anyone other than Stari, who prefer the bow anyways, whereas I've fought Rito, Dracos, Gerudo, and Logatans. I think it's safe to say that if we fought now, I'd win. Besides," she added with a broad grin, "I was always better at magic than you, Jiro, and I've only gotten better." She knelt down in front of Felgrand. "Been a long time, huh, Felly?" She rubbed his ears, ignoring Solar's eyeroll.

Narus smiled, letting go of his katana. "I've gotten a lot better in the years since we've last met," he said "The only reason you would win would be because I wouldn't be able to bring myself to kill you. And will you stop calling Felgrand Felly?" Felgrand purred. "Traitor," Narus muttered "Well, I'm turning in for the night. I suppose I'll see you tommorrow. Come on, Felgrand."

Amaya chuckled as Narus headed off. "Until you've wrestled a Draco or fought sword-to-sword with a Gerudo, you've not fought any good opponets," she said, although he couldn't hear her. "Not in the forest, at any rate." She patted Solar's head and entered her tent. She plunked down on her sleeping mat and rolled on her back. Solar lay down next to her, his head resting on her side. She rubbed his ears, thinking over meeting Narus. She decided that it was through the goddesses' will. Rhykim chooses to use Endin to meet his goals, she thought grimly, I can use Narus to watch him. A traitor needs to be watched by one who won't betray. She grinned fiercely in the darkness, thinking Narus would be loyal to her, if not Rhykim. Besides, it would be nice to be the Alpha wolf, instead of the secondary Beta.

All night, Endin tossed and turned in his sleep, slipping in and out of dreams. One moment he was awake, the next on the battlefield, then stalking the city streets. This is your chance. They'll never suspect it. Go out there, put them down. All of them. Do it. Do it now!

He woke with a start, fumbling at the sheath strapped to the side of his rib cage. Slowly he took in the tent, holding the knife in front of him. His armor had been stacked (a more accurate word might be piled) in the corner, covered by half the contents of his pack. A empty flask was at the top. Endin stood up and dressed, strapping on the twenty or so knives he didn't sleep with. The cloak was left on his bed, neatly folded; in its place he wore a white surcoat with the Alcaeus crest stitched in the front. It smelled like mothballs. He swallowed a vial of red potion that burned as it went down and kicked like a horse, but easily made up for weeks of lost sleep. Hell of a hangover cure.

It wasn't quite dawn when he left the tent, feet steady and head held high. A daring, maybe even jaunty smirk was plastered across his face. "Get out of bed, princess!" He shouted at the huddle of Logatean tents, banging together a pair of pots. The sadist, of course, was awake already, some soldier making eyes at her and pawing at her heels more than the cat was. He chuckled at that, the potion giving him a sense of humor. He'd never have guessed Amaya (Amara? Whatever, didn't matter) was one to keep a suck-up around.

"Morning, General. How'd you sleep?" Endin said, keeping the same self-satisfied smile locked on. He grabbed a plate of eggs from a passing soldier-one of hers-and tore into them ferociously. This potion was good.

Amaya looked up from her food as she was called. Her gaze narrowed warily as she regarded the man before her. He didn't seem drunk, which was a plus, but he still had that snotty edge to his voice. "One of these days, I'm going to find out what his deal is," she muttered to Solar.
The cheetah lifted his bloody muzzle from his haunch. You'd sooner kill him, he commented.
"True enough," Amaya replied, then allowed herself a grin. "Good morning, Captain," she told him brightly. "You seem chipper today. Ready to capture Silvervale?"

Narus ate his breakfast separate from the others, occasionaly giving Felgrand some. He was back to his usual stone-faced silence. He had forgotten how Amaya could make him smile, no matter how angry he was. Even if he was angry at her. He watched as the camp finished their meals and went to break camp, getting ready to move out. He took particullar interest in Endin. He had seen him slipping out of his tent last night. "I don't trust him," he said to Felgrand. "Do you trust anyone?" he replied. "What's wrong with going out for a walk in the middle of the night? You heard him mumbling. Perhaps he just couldn't sleep." "Maybe," Narus said. "Come. We need to pack our tent."

(Because of Theo's inactivity, I'm going to time-skip to after gaining Silvervale's allegiance.)

                              A week later-

"Always moving anymore, aren't we, Solar," Amaya asked as she led her platoon through Silvervale to its northern exit. "Leading people from one place to another."
The cheetah shrugged. "At least we got Silvervale. Rhykim will be pleased."
                              "That he will."
"I wonder, though, at the wisdom of leaving Endin in charge of their forces without you here to supervise.
Amaya grinned wickedly at her partner. "Oh I wouldn't dare do something like that. Once a traitor, always a traitor. However, there's a Stari among our troops who can see and hear anything of his choosing. For example, he can hear if Endin is talking to someone at this very moment and what they are discussing or reading. If he is plotting anything against me, that Stari will tell me."
"Unless he's asleep when it happens."
Amaya threw back her head and laughed. "Don't trust me, Solar? Why, I thought you knew me better than that. We also have a set of twins at our disposal, whose gift is to be able to communicate with each other using their minds, with no regard for distance. One of them remains with Endin to spy on him, the other with me to report anything. She grinned down at Solar. "I'm not a trusting person, as you know, so I would never take my information from one person alone. I wish I had more Stari at my disposal to keep Endin in line, but for now, these three will work. Plus, they don't know that I am using two sources, not one, so they cannot work together to decieve me.
The cheetah bowed his head in acknowlegement. "You are wise, Amaya."
"No, just clever, but thank you for saying so." She rubbed his ear affectionately.
