Zulo peered out to the spring from his branch as Zaria spoke. Now that he thought about it, the water could easily be running into an underwater cavern or something, which would definitely be interesting. There was only one way to see if it lead anywhere, however with Zulo's swimming skills, going down there would be suicide. Plus, he knew wet feathers would impair his flight. Nonetheless, he was curious if there was anything to be found below the water. "Um, you can go down and look around if you want," he told Zaria. "I'm not much of a swimmer. I'll stay up here and spot, I guess."

Tyra kept a wary eye on her surroundings, but also a fascinated one. Their surroundings were similar to several beaches on Logata, but different as well, if only because she knew they were supposed to be so. "According to the charts," she told Felix, in answer to his question, "We're in a country called Termina. This area is called Great Bay. Over that way," she pointed to a rocky protrusion further south and in the sea, "That's Zora Hall. However, who knows how old that chart is, or how accurate. That place could very easily be empty by now."
As they went further inland, Tyra could see small signs of civilization. The remnants of a campfire. Oysters shells and fish bones piled in a way animals wouldn't. A pair of lone houses standing behind a small wall. She pointed these out. "We're bound to see at least some people, but we'll have to be careful. It's doubtful we speak the same language, and even if we do, we're bound to have different customs."

(Does someone want to make a new thread for us in Termina Field/Clock Town? I'd be fine with a time skip if desired.)

Felix nodded slowly as Tyra told them about the map. Looking around, it was no easy to see signs of recent activity in the area, but there were still no people. He wondered if they could check out the Zora Hall later on, as it sounded intriguing. However, he could see that Tyra was heading towards the edge of the beach, where the ground began turning greener and the sand all but faded into the ground. A field, he though, they were heading into a field. Whatever happened, he just hoped they weren't attacked. With only three of them, they were open targets. He kept the thought to himself, however, and walked on.

Zaria shrugged, and unbuckled her belt, handing it to Zulo. It was really more to hold her knives than to hold up her pants, and she didn't want to lose any of them in the water. Plus, with less weight, she would be able to move more freely though the water. "Hold these, and guard them with your life," she said. Gliding gently from the branch over the center of the spring, Zaria took a deep breath, twisted in the air, and dove headfirst into the water, holding in a yelp when the cold water seeped through her feathers to her skin.

Being a creature of flight, Zaria's lungs were more advanced than a Human or Hylian's, but less so than the aquatic Zora. Diving down fast, she ducked under the rocks and further into the spring. If she was lucky, there would be small pockets of air she could pit-stop at, and if not, she would just have to make multiple trips, each a little faster than the last. Forturnately, there were small air pockets, and she slowly let herself float up to the first, as not to knock her head into the hard stone above her. When her head bumped the top and her nose was above the water, she took the time to breathe a little. Rubbing the water out of her eyes, she took another breath and pushed herself under the surface to see where she should head next. A quick, shadowy blob darted underneath her, but it was gone as quick as it had come, so Zaria wasn't able to see what it was.

Trying not to worry herself, she took another deep breath from the air pocket and continued deeper into the spring. The shadowy thing swam beneath her again, a little slower this time, but still too fast for her to see. Curious, Zaria swam downwards, following it.

Now that Zaria had gone down into the water, there wasn't much Zulo had to do besides watch out for any incoming threats, though this spot didn't look like it could possibly harbor any harm. It was just such a pretty place. Zulo got down and sat on the branch, his legs dangling below him. He stared into the shimmering blue of the spring, the gentle sound of flowing water almost lulling him into a trance. He heard some birds chirping here and there, and a bright red one swooped by without seeming to notice Zulo. It was a rather hot day, but a breeze came by to rustle the leaves and Zulo's feathers. After sitting there a while, he shifted over and sat with his back leaning on the tree trunk. Everything was so still it took away from his sense of time, but he hoped Zaria would come back out soon unharmed. If she had been gone this long, there must have been quite a bit to explore down there. He found it really brave of her to swim down like that, knowing he himself certainly wouldn't. He admired her for that, among other things. He looked at the belt of hers he was now holding, and at the glistening twin blades slotted in the side. They looked very well kept so he gripped the belt carefully, worried that he might drop it.

The figure below Zaria slowed down, and then stopped, but it didn't stop her from swimming ever closer to get a better look at it. She was going to need air soon, but she still had enough time to at least identify the creature. She reached out with a feathered hand to touch it, to feel if it was scaly or smooth or slimy, but just as her fingertips brushed it, the creature whipped around and bared fangs. A lot of them. Suppressing a scream, Zaria turned as fast as she could and swam clumsily back towards the mouth of the spring, the creature snapping at her feet as it chased after her. She was running out of air fast, but she had to make it last at least until she could get out of the water.

Her lungs burned when she saw the light that filtered through the trees, one of which held Zulo. Giving her legs two sharp kicks to try and knock the creature confused, Zaria burst above the water, gulping down air. For the time being, she'd forgotten about the creature, and focused only on getting air into her lungs. "Zulo!" she shouted, glancing below her but not seeing the thing. "There's some thing down there, and it tried to bite me, it--" there was a sharp pain in her butt, and she screamed, beating her feet against it and working her way towards the shore, rolling over the sand and into the grass when it let go. "Kill it!"

Zulo was so surprised by Zaria's abrupt return that his balance from atop the branch was jolted backwards. He tilted off to fall towards the grassy land below, but was able to get a hold of himself enough to spread his wings and slow down, gliding closer to Zaria. He caught a glimpse of a creature thrashing around in the water, but only had a vague idea of what was going on. He let his feet float to the ground as he reached her, and without much thinking he hugged her below the arms, dragging her away from the water with a bit of a struggle. He pulled her 'til he thought they were a safe distance away from the mystery fish and then he turned to face it. Unfortunately, he had not been bright enough to bring his bow with him. Instead, he made use of the rocks around him and he snatched one from the sand, whipping it towards the water. There was so much splashing going on in the water that he couldn't even tell if he had hit his target. He realized that for better or for worse he had managed to land a lucky shot as the creature's movement died down for a short time.

Then in a split second, a black figure emerged from the water, rushing towards the Ritos. Zulo was too terrified to make a peep. As quickly as he could, he centered his strength on helping Zaria to her feet, then he gave a little shove to get her out of harm's way. The creature continued to sprint towards Zulo on it's two finned legs, and as it reached him he used his wings to propel himself into the air to jump over. As graceful as Zulo had been expecting his maneuver to go, the creature's arm shot up with a lengthy reach and grabbed the rito's ankle from midair, tossing him away. Zulo used his wings to redirect his landing to atop a boulder, where he looked back to see the creature advancing on Zaria. Before it could reach her, he tossed yet another rock in that direction. At this point he wasn't even trying to aim well, he just wanted to draw the predator's attention to himself so it wouldn't get Zaria as she seemed to remain somewhat immobilized. As he had expected, his target turned back to face Zulo. However, he had not been expecting to receive a wild-eyed, nearly blood-freezing glare. They both snapped out of it, and Zulo allowed the monster to chase him around the spring. As he flew around with his pursuer close in tow, Zulo would swoop down here and there to grab whatever he could to keep the creature's aggression off Zaria. This went on for a minute or so...

Then all of a sudden, the monster had a brief series of shrieks even worse than before until they died down into silence.

*Donovan and Kaida arrive from the thread "Familiar Lands"*

Donovan sprinted into the black zora, finishing him off with his thin sword in a matter of seconds. He retrieved a throwing knife of his from the moaning body's bloody arm, swiping it through the water in the nearby spring to clean off the blade. He then returned the knife to his belt and knelt down to clean off his sword. While he did so, he settled his eyes on one of the bird-folk who had been under attack moments ago, the girl. She seemed much more composed than her winged male partner. Donovan smiled to her to show that he meant no harm. "How'd you manage to get him so ticked?" he asked in a friendly tone as he continued to wash his blade til it was shining silver again. He was actually quite curious, as he had never seen a zora get very mad at all before, let alone bloodthirsty. Although, he had never seen a zora of those scale colors before either. But the real curiosity that was pounding in his mind was, how the hell did these people turn into half-birds? He had never heard of such a thing, not even from Lyxa, and hadn't even imagined anything like it in the past. However, he tried to go into this rather politely and subtly.

"Swam in his spring, I guess, Zaria shrugged, half waddling and half limping to pick up her belt from where they'd fallen off Zulo. She looked the Hylian up and down, taking in his long purple hair and the mark of something on his hand. She clipped the belt around her waist and let herself fall to her knees in the grass, twisting back to look at where the Zora had bit her. There was blood trickling down, leaving red streaks on legs. "Have anything we use so Zulo can patch me up?"

"As a matter of fact, I do," Donovan said as he reached into his bag and grabbed the bandage roll he had been using to aid his shoulder wound. He didn't need it as much anymore now that he was healing up well. He tossed the roll to the bird girl and took a seat on a rock.

Zulo swooped down to meet Zaria, still shaken up from the zora encounter. The presence of the human was also stirring up his nerves quite a bit. What did they want? He stared for a moment at the man sitting on a rock, who was just dreamily gazing around the forest. "Is there something you want from us?" Zulo asked somewhat rudely.

Donovan's eyes met the boy's when he spoke. "Just saw you in harm and thought I'd help," Donovan replied. "Sorry if you wanted to handle things on your own."

"It-it's fine," Zulo sighed, accepting that he and Zaria might have been toast if it wasn't for the man. He returned his attention to Zaria. "Need help with those bandages?"

"You should probably wash that out before putting on the bandages," Donovan chimed in. He got up and looked down into the deep spring, not seeing any action below the surface. "Unless there are more in there. But I don't think so."

"Doubt it," Zaria said, raising herself up into the air and then gently into the water again to rinse the dirt and Zora spit out her wounds. She also rubbed the blood off of her legs, muttering to herself about how these were her favorite ****ing pants, and that she'd have to either find a way to get them sewn or decide on a new pair. Zaria would re-bandage herself when she was back on the ship, not fond of undressing in front of others. She limped out of the water and back to Zulo. "I am going to need help with the bandages," she admitted.

"Alright," Zulo said, and when the time came, he began assisting Zaria in wrapping up her wound. It was unfortunate that she got bitten, but at least it gave Zulo probable cause to touch her butt. He just hoped that nothing was transmitted from the zora to Zaria.

Donovan paced around as the ritos worked with the bandage, looking off into the distance. He had seen enough things in his adventures that it didn't totally freak him out to see these birdpeople, but he was still intrigued. Why hadn't he heard of them before? "So, ah," he began, trying to go into things politely as the ritos already seemed a bit irritated by him for some reason. "Where are you two from?"

"Logata, a land far north of here," she answered, stretching when Zulo was finished patching her butt. "We flew a great length from where we landed, although." She lied. Zaria wasn't sure of how the newcomer would react to them, hostile or otherwise, and she didn't want to jeopardize the safety of the White Wolf, her cargo, or more importantly, her crew. Especially with the new member, she had to set an at least halfway decent example.

Kaida stormed along the beach, fuming. She had not been happy to return from hunting to find that Donovan wasn't in the house. She understood his desire to get out now and then, but she'd told him before to wait until she could come along. He might have mostly recovered from their trip through Ikana, but he was still weak enough from it that she dislike letting him out of her sight. The only reason she did so was to hunt, and that was only because he wasn't good company when she was attempting to focus exclusively on catching the elusive rabbits. Maybe when he was strong enough she could start taking jobs again and earn Rupees for proper food but until then she needed to be able to get their food on the table.
She frowned as she heard voices, recognizing one of them as Donovan's. She scowled, thinking he'd be his usual kind-hearted self and invite them over for supper. As long as they weren't pirates, she might be able to tolerate it, but the higher-pitched voices made her wonder. They didn't have the same crude mannerism as the Gerudo, nor the grating voices used to shouting over gales, but that didn't mean they weren't enemies.
Cresting a dune, she finally saw Donovan was talking with a pair of humanoid birds. She snorted. It would figure. He had a knack for find the rare or unusual creatures. After all, that's what had gotten him into trouble in Hyrule. And now here he was chatting away with what could possibly be cousins of that over-grown turkey. She stormed down to him, muttering all manner of obscenities as she did so. "Donovan Artemis, what have I told you about leaving the hut? You're still not fully recovered yet; you shouldn't be out on you own. I had to leave dinner waiting on the table to come find you, and now I have sand in my boots and Leever guts on my breastplate. And of course I have to find you sitting here as if nothing's wrong, talking to a pair of birds!" She shot a glare at the creatures, as if it was their fault, but also doing a quick assessment. Satisfied they weren't an immediate threat, she returned to chastising her companion, deciding to ask about the blood and dead Zora after she'd expunged her temper.

A tornado of thoughts whipped around Donovan's mind and he had countless questions to ask, but at Kaida's arrival he didn't spare the birds another word and looked up at her instead. "I'm sorry Kaida..." Donovan started, ashamed to let Kaida get upset with him. Although, it was probably her protectiveness again. "I saw them from the hut and saw them get attacked, and..." He paused for a moment. Maybe if Kaida actually payed some attention to the mysterious bird people, she would be amazed enough to cool down. Though, she certainly wouldn't trust the birds any time soon. Donovan even had the feeling that he shouldn't himself. "They're talking birds for Din's sake!"

Zaria scowled at Kaida when she shot her a dirty look, cringed at Donovan's crude "talking bird" description, and then stepped forward. "I don't know who you think you are, screaming at this guy like he's your child who wandered off in the market," she gestured to Donovan, and then popped her hip to the side, resting her other hand on it. "But don't you think shouting about his injuries is a bad idea, especially in front of sentient beings that could do harm to a weakened creature?" She glanced at Donovan then. "And the proper term is Rito, we aren't just talking birds." She shook some of the wet hair that had fallen in front of her eyes back, giving the impression that she'd punctuated her sass with a hair flip. She would have too if she didn't keep it so short.
