Kaida's sword clattered to a stop near Donovan, who quickly grabbed it and advanced towards the enemy. He approached from behind the Zora's back and plunged his sword towards it's spine, expecting an easy victory, but the monster unexpectedly jolted around to whack Donovan aside, flinging his body to the ground. It would be a few seconds before Donovan was able to get back on his feet to help Kaida.

The Zora turned suddenly, avoiding Kaida's knife and hit Donovan, sending him across the floor again. Kaida scowled, twisting to slash across the creature's side. It howled in pain and swung at her. She ducked, then used the momentum of straightening to plunge her knife through its lower jaw. It struggled against the blade, attempting to screech at her with rage, but her knife pinned its tongue to the roof of its mouth as she strove to push the blade even further. Its claw-like nails scratched her face for several moments before she succeeded in spearing its brain. She grimaced as it finally went limp, and tipped the knife so its own weight pulled the creature of her blade. She wiped it on her pant leg as she strode over to Donovan. "Next time, just hand me my sword, will you?" she said wearily once reassured he only had a few scrapes and bruises.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

By the time Donovan was back on his feet, the black zora corpse laid lifelessly before Kaida. He was quite relieved that he wouldn't have to keep up the fight, but was also kind of ashamed that he had made himself look so weak in front of Kaida. That would only make her more protective. Her comment stung him as well, but he tried not to express it. "I'm sorry, I just..." Donovan looked down as if watching his dignity shatter all over the floor. "I thought I was stronger than this..." he mumbled to himself. After all the days his arm had spent healing up, it was flaring all over again from the blow. He hoped the pain would recede quickly. With a sigh, he looked down at the corpse. It emitted an odor he couldn't recognize, and he realized that they couldn't live here another night. Even if they went through the trouble of removing the corpse, it was too late to stop the sand around it from turning muddy with black blood. He stared at the black puddle disappointedly and watched as a tiny crab burrowed out of the ground and walked into the ooze, immediately shriveling up as if it crawled into a fire. However, there wasn't any sound as the critter was fried by the blood. Donovan didn't feel like he had come in any noticeable contact with the blood, and he looked up at Kaida to see if she had gotten burnt at all.
