James walked close by her, inspecting that the bandage on his hand was still tight. He smiled when he heard her mention Inga and looked up at her. "Really? When did that happen?" He had a fairly good idea, remembering her and Jacky bickering over something while he talked with Edward, but he wanted to know the full story. As they slowly moved back to the more dusty rather than dry grassy area, he silently wished they were able to stay talking back in the river forever.

Jackylin concentrated on the path they were on, ignoring his question at first . In her mind, she replayed the argument with Inga, thinking about how, technically, Jacky had one, getting to James first. Even it if was in a really weird way. “Back at camp, we might have had a uh, debate about things. She was really sure of herself, but I won both figuratively, and legitimately.” She grinned at James. “She’s too old anyway.”Old Age of War stuff here:

James frowned in the "weird but okay" kind of way, and chuckled at her response. "Too old huh? Well, then I'm glad you won if she was too old for whatever it was." He shook his head, still laughing, as they continued walking. "I wonder how long this Rebellion will take. I mean, I'm already getting tired of it and I only just got here. Besides," he added, "there's other things I'd rather be doing."Comment

Jackylin smiled to herself when she was positive she'd one against Inga. "Mmm, like what?" She asked. If James had just come to Termina like she had, that meant he didn't know a lot about the country either, right? Right. "I'd get tired of the fighting soon enough too, but I'm still not caught up on the problems here." She made a mental note to ask around in camp, the Edward guy James was talking to looked like he would know, if James didn't find out.Old Age of War stuff here:

James pondered her question. "Like...like adventure and freedom. This, waiting for orders to be given, watching for random attacks, preparing to fight an "unfit" king, this is no adventure, nor is it our own war. I want to climb the freezing mountains and sail across the endless lake. I want to protect those close to me," he looked at her, but held Sephira's pendant with his healthy hand over his heart, "and simply be free. Those are all things I could be doing. More important, but instead I wait." He kept walking.Comment

"Waiting gives you time to think," she replied. "At least, that's what my mom told me before I could go." she kicked a rock in front of her and kept it up. "I think after I see Termina, I want to see my family again. And see how my sister came up, since I left when she was young. I'm just not ready to go back yet," she kicked the rock a bit far to the left, and watched it roll off. They walked.Old Age of War stuff here:

James sighed, wondering how it must be like to have family you wanted to go visit. All his family was dead, both biological and surrogate. The only one he had left was Sephira. He thought this as he clutched the pendant tighter, and a tingling feeling overcame him. He was tempted to open it, as he never had before, but he restrained. He didn't think it was time, not yet. They walked closer to the camp, and could feel how nothing had changed since they'd left. "I wonder what's been cooked," he said, directed at no one in particular. "I think I remember the way..." He began walking in a certain direction once they got into the camp, leading them to the food.Comment

Jackylin sniffed at the air, and her stomach growled when she smelled whatever the camp was cooking. "I think we're going the right way," she agreed. If Inga was cooking, that meant that she would be too busy to make a scene. And since their clothes were dry as it was, that meant she wouldn't be any the wiser to her victory. As they drew closer and closer, the smell becoming potent and penetrating, James realized if Jacky and Inga weren't on the best terms, perhaps it wasn't right he lead her straight to Inga. He slowed to a halt suddenly, and turned to her. "You know, we could always try circumscribing Inga. I'm sure there must be other cooks, and if we go unnoticed then you two won't break out in conflict. Also," he added, "I could go and get the food for us if you want."Comment

She sighed, relieved she wouldn't have to even be in the same tent as Inga for long. "If you don't mind doing so, I'm really not picky. I'll uh, wait out here." She needed to re-braid her hair, and that would give her something to do instead of standing outside awkwardly. While James walked in the tent to get food, Jackylin sat out of the way, near the wall of another tent, and started to untangle her hair, and then separate it back into thirds.Old Age of War stuff here:

James hurried through the tent, gathering two plates and two full meals. He didn't know what it was that was on the plate, but as long as his nose was fine with it it would have to do. He spotted Inga on the other side of the tent, but wanting to get back outside soon, he simply took the food and hurried out. Standing before Jacky with the food, he pointed to it. "For the lady." It was hard holding one plate with his injured hand, so he hoped she would take it fast.Comment

She took both plates so that James could sit down, just as soon as she tied her braid. "Sit down, it'll be easier to eat," she scooted over so he'd have more room off of the path. "It smells good, and I haven't heard any complaints about the food thus far," She sat cross legged and put a plate on either knee, James' closer to him so he wouldn't have to reach across her lap. She tucked the loose strand of hair behind her ear, and waited for him to get situated so they could both eat.Old Age of War stuff here:

James smiled in appreciation and carefully took a sit next to her, far enough that they could breathe but close enough that their arms were touching. "Thanks, I didn't think having a hurt wrist could cause so much trouble." He took the fork with his left hand, but waited for her to start eating first. "I agree, it does smell good."Comment

Jackylin took up her fork in her right hand, opposite to James. "You don't really think about how much you use something until you can't," Jackylin agreed, taking a bite of what had been piled high. Right then, she didn't care what it was, because she was starving, but it was honestly delicious. "It's not poisoned, I know that much."Old Age of War stuff here:

James laughed as he tried some of the food. It was good, but his mind kept rambling on to other places too much for him to appreciate it. As he ate, he looked at Jacky. Once he gulped down the first bite, he said, "At least no immediate poison. We'll have to wait 48 hours to be sure." He winked and grabbed another forkful.Comment
