  • James was still laughing when Jacky showed him the feather. His blood chilled when he saw it, although he had somehow been expecting something like it to happen. He looked to the sky despite knowing Sephira would have flown away by now. He wondered what she was doing that she had time to turn into her phoenix counterpart. Looking back at the feather, he took it from Jacky's hands and studied it closely. "It's a special feather, I think. A message even." He didn't explain what he meant. "Come on, we're almost far out enough that we don't risk burning down the camp." In his mind, though, he knew what he had known before. He could never betray Sephira. He loved her too much. But Jacky and him would remain friends anyway, because there was no crime against friendship.

    • Ralatar seemed to have woken up later than most of camp, and was one of the last people to have breakfast. After that, he had a low key morning compared to most of the rebels. They all seemed to be working their own jobs to support the camp, while Ralatar really didn't care that much. He didn't do anything, really. He spent the day blending in with the campers and he thought he was doing a good job of it. His plan on dealing with Edward was to wait for the night. It only seemed possible if the man was asleep. For now, everybody would think he was like the others. He made sure to avoid Kafei, the person who would most easily recognize him. In the earlier part of the day, he also made an effort to avoid anyone who looked like they had the power to give him a job, but so far nobody was interested in the 14 year old. After lunch, he grew so bored that he stopped watching out for potential job-givers. Besides, getting a job would only help with his blending in. He was still going to let them come to him, however.

      • (First time posting in a long, long while, if I do something wrong in this post or mess something up please tell me and I will fix it. This post will be an attempt to sum up my absence.)
The dreams, the dreams continue to appear. While Gerrard had gone along with the rest of the group, received a job, and went through the daily routine it all seemed unimportant. He was always chasing something in every dream,, something just beyond his grasp, and when he got close to the objective, he woke up in a cold sweat. These dreams worried him more than it should, although, he always woke up with a yearning for the objective, and while he was out doing work his mind would always stray to the exact same thing.
Last night, although, the dream was new, and more vivid than usual, he was killing people his own sword was penetrating countless people, energy was flying from his palm, it was all a muddle of a nightmare. He dreamt about killing countless people, but one person, this middle aged lady with a stark resemblance to James' mother, stuck out to him. These were memories from Gerrard's time when he was possessed by the dark magic of Ganondorf, months ago. These memories have been mostly blocked from his mind, but they came rushing out like a pent-up river of feelings and emotions, and Gerrard woke up feeling for the worse and he felt like he was about to let out a sob. He got up, at 4am as the other hunters did, and prepared for his day.
Gerrard had been assigned the job of being a hunter, he was out for most of the day occasionally going back to camp to deliver any meat that was needed for the kitchen. He didn't mind the job, his childhood as a thief and a loner had made him perfectly adapted, and these animals were naive to the Hyrulian techniques he used, so he was quickly effective.
He really remained quiet to the other members of the rebellion, although, he had uttered barely a word to anyone, even his supposed friends he came to Termina with. He was promised a new life away from his old one and he really did not appreciate being held up by this rebellion he knew little to nothing about. Especially after his memory of killings from his last dream, he didn't want to experience those feelings again. But he did what he had to do, and after a long day he sat down at the dinner table, slowly eating and making notice of the absence of James and his little female friend.

        • Elwood rolled over. "You got me! I'm dead." Midnight barked happily at him and wagged his tail. Star was standing a little to the side, watching them and shaking her head. Elwood giggled and pushed himself up from the ground. It was then that he realized he hadn't eaten anything in most of the day. Considering how much food he could consume, he thought it appropriate to go looking for the kitchen. And that's where he found himself a few minutes later. He came out holding a plate filled with food and walked over to the only table where someone he had seen before was sitting. Gerrard looked lonely, so he decided some company might be in order. Sitting before him with the plate of food, he started up the casual and light conversation. "So hey, Mister, why does Sephira not like you very much? There aren't that many people I know she doesn't like. Did you do something really bad? Like forbidden bad?" His words faded into a whisper by the last sentence.

          –––

"Alright, ready for it?" Jacky smiled and nodded, giggling at James' overexcited attitude. He was aiming the bow at the sky, where a couple of clouds had gathered. They'd spent about an hour playing around with it, and now that she was too tired to go on but well trained enough that she could probably use a normal bow with ease, he decided to show her one last little trick. "Well, here goes!" he yelled as he released the pulsating arrow of energy which shot up into the sky. It was lost to the cloud in a couple of second, but then a massive noise vibrated to the field, and the cloud was illuminated as though by a thousand stars. Every single corner of fluffy white was shined upon, and when the light finally subsided the cloud was nowhere to be seen. Jacky smiled and nodded.
"Pretty impressive, I give you that." She was now sitting on the ground, staring at the sky. James joined her, staring off as well.
"So hey, how's your family like? Are your mom and dad any good?" As he asked it, he thought to his own scumbag father and sighed internally. She took a deep breath.
"Well, it's a somewhat complicated story."
          "I got time."
          "Don't you always?"

          • Gerrard was sitting at the table, in stony silence, with his thoughts going wild. Merely perusing over his experiences, the day out hunting was normal, boringly normal actually. He wasn't enjoying himself the majority of the time, the whole point of hunting was to receive a challenge, and he wasn't getting that. Although, he thought as he took a bite, he was putting some good meat on the table.

It was then that he saw the little child, Elwood he believed his name was, start to approach him. As Elwood approached Gerrard made a quick evaluation of him, he was lively, to be sure. He couldn't process much more before the lively child sat right beside him, and begin to take a bite or two. When Elwood looked up to him and uttered those words, Gerrard was in a bit of a shock at how direct he was, and then cleared his throat.
Well, Gerrard began I did some things that I regret at this time. Gerrard didn't really know how to explain this to someone so innocent, but he had to give him an answer, he had to move on, he couldn't lie. So Gerrard decided he would simply skirt around it.
I did some things in my past that simply weren't under my control, and that is why Sephira seems to not like me. And she has full reason to, but I am trying to change now.
It felt good to get this off of his chest, even if it was indirect and to a small child, it felt good to finally open up to someone with how quiet he had been and how he had never really opened up to anyone besides himself. It felt great actually, for the first time in weeks, he had a smile on his face.

            • Elwood cocked his head to the side, curious. "Did you kill someone? I think that's a pretty bad thing to do. Did you kill someone and she doesn't like you because of it?" Nia jingled in his ear alarmed, but he didn't pay attention. "You know, I killed someone once too. And it was out of my own will as well! We have so much in common. They told me he was a nice guy. James liked him a lot I think. But Sephira doesn't hate me for killing him. So what did you do, mister? Are you just easier to hate because of that funny look on your face?" He giggled. "It really is funny. Or maybe did you do something even worse..." Elwood gasped, "Did you kiss her? Cause this friend of mine back in the forest, he told us that if you kissed someone they might not like it and then they would bite you so you would stop kissing them and be angry. Did you kiss Sephira, mister? But then why doesn't James hate you too, cause he sure does like Sephira, right?" Nia jingled again to tell him he was being too direct, and this time Elwood stopped for a moment.

                (Brilliant response J)
Gerrard couldn't help but chuckle under his breath with how direct Elwood was, the kid wasn't bad, wasn't bad at all. He liked how direct he was, somewhat reminded him of himself as a small child, before his village was raided and everything he knew and loved was destroyed before his very eyes. He did make note at the comment about Elwood killing someone willingly, that was surprising to him. You're a little young to be killing, aren't you? He also then quickly addressed the numerous questions directed at him by the small, energetic, ball of energy.
I like you, Elwood, you are very direct. And in response to your question no, I did not kiss Sephira. Gerrard said this with a slight smirk on his face, he never really had romantic feelings for Sephira, and laughed at the thought of her reaction at an occurrence like that considering the current tension between them.
Yes, Elwood, I did kill someone, more than someone actually, you have quite a keen mind. I wasn't exactly in my own mind though, I am not that type of man, make that clear. If I was still like that I would probably be dead at this moment actually Again, it felt good for him to open up somewhat, if only to a small child, as he never did feel comfortable talking to anyone else.

                • "It sucks that you didn't get to kiss her. She is very pretty. Reminds me of a girl that takes care of the really young Kokiri back in the forest. Gramma, they call her. Like Sephira, you know? She is pretty in a loving woman that gives you cookies way," Elwood replied, absentmindedly. He took another bite from his plate and savored it in his mouth. "You know this food is really very good? I bet the gatherers made it this morning. I just hope they didn't hurt any small animals in the process," he frowned. "Those people that hurt the animals are really nasty. I mean, what have they ever done to you? It's not okay. Someone doesn't get to just walk up to someone else randomly on the road and say, 'hey I am going to eat you now'. It would be like me jumping at your funny face and taking a bite of it and making it even funnier! You just don't do that." Shaking his head, he looked up at Gerrard. "Do you hurt the animals, mister?" Nia jingled a little bit less stressed. She was glad that Elwood hadn't pursued the original topic of conversation, although knowing the kid he could pick it up again at any moment.

                  • Gerrard internally flinched as the accusations sprang from the young Kokiri's mouth. Should he tell him that he was a hunter, and this food was provided by him? Did he want to alienate himself from Elwood like that? But did he really want to lie to him? He had to find a compromise. His mind whirled, he enjoyed finally thinking, he had been depressed and had acted emotionless for far too long. And even something as simple as thinking was making him feel much better.

So, after thinking for a few seconds, Gerrard started talking.
Well, unfortunately, I am a hunter. But being a lover of animals as I am, I make sure that they only die painlessly. And I will only hunt in necessity. Believe me, when I have grown up like I have I never kill animals needlessly. He hoped he sounded right, he had grown up living most harmoniously with animals, and didn't want to appear to be a heartless animal killer to anyone, he at least had that part of his conscience left.

                    • Elwood squinted his eyes, frowned, stared coldly at Gerrard's eyes, then laughed. "Oh well, I mean I guess it's sad not everyone got to live such privileged lives that they were able to survive only on the very friendly fruits provided by Farore," he continued as he munched on some more food. "Although, mister, you should always say please before shooting, and thank you after taking. Cause you know these animals are our friends, they even protect us and all. If you aren't nice to them, they might start hunting you themselves. Never betray your friends, I say. I bet you've never betrayed your friends, right mister? I mean even after killing someone, I bet you were too nice to betray them."

                      • Gerrard felt a pang in his heart as Elwood stabbed right where it hurt. He knew something about people, some people just have that ability, but Gerrard didn't think it was bad, it was good for him to release his emotions this way.
But he still didn't want to lie to the little fella, but he quickly thought of a way around it without lying.
Don't worry, Elwood, I have never voluntarily betrayed my friends. I'm not that kind of person. I would never betray a person that trusted me. He said this with a slight smile on his face, he loved this conversation, and he was sure the little guy was enjoying himself too.

                        • Midnight finally grew tired of watching people eating and went to find Elwood again. He had left the boy only when he got in line, knowing he wouldn't receive any of the delicious smelling food being handed out, and instead attempted to mooch some from the other diners. They all pushed him aside though, so he decided to see if his friend would be willing to give him some. He nosed his way under the table and poked his head back out on the Kokiri's lap and looked up at him with mournful blue eyes, a soft whine rising from him.
Star rolled her eyes at him. She had already caught and eaten a rabbit, and felt no need to beg for scraps. Midnight might be enjoy that sort of thing, but she was a bit more dignified than the wolf. Besides, she recognized the man Elwood sat with. Sephira had ignored him the entire way over from Hyrule, ever since she had inflicted those burns on him, so Star felt obligated to do the same. Instead she decided to see what Edward was up to. After sending her Alpha off, she hadn't seen much of him and was curious what sort of measures he was taking to act on the information Zarola had brought them and to bring Sephira home.

                          • Elwood smiled and bounced on his seat at Gerrard's response. He was so proud of him for not being a nasty traitor. Suddenly he felt hair tickling his legs and he looked down surprised, only to see Mid pleading for food. Elwood laugh. "You silly wolf, Mid, why are you hiding down there? You know I would give you food without you having to beg." He took a piece of the still warm bread they had baked from his plate and held it out in front of Midnight. Except, he didn't just give it to him. "Although, I would say you have to earn this nice piece of bread. You can only get it if you promise me a rematch after I'm done talking with the nice Mister here. After all, you totally cheated your way to victory last game." He giggled and finally handed Midnight the bread, looking back up at Gerrard. Forgetting what they had been talking about, he came up with a new topic. "So, how'd you meet Sephira, mister?"

                            Comment

                            • Gerrard breathed an internal sigh of relief that Elwood didn't question the small lie, for some reason he felt like if the small Kokiri caught him in a lie that things wouldn't turn out well.
When the question about where he met Sephira was presented, he himself had to think, where did I meet her? He thought back, back to when he was younger, and back when his life seemed much more carefree. Then, the thought hit him, he had been rescued by her in a prison in Castle Town. Yes, that was right, he had been caught stealing something. But did he want to tell Elwood this, and admit that he was a criminal. I mean, he did already tell him that he killed someone, but, he didn't really know what to do. He then decided just to tell him, he didn't want to get caught in a lie that could easily be disproven through a simple conversation.
She actually rescued me from prison Gerrard stated, I got caught doing something I shouldn't have, and when I tried to escape I was sentenced to death. But Sephira and, uh, Elliot both saved me. I owe my life to both to them.
He hoped Elwood would understand his point of view, as he tried to portray himself as someone who wasn't a bad person, he was trying to change himself, after all.

                              • Elwood frowned. "So you're running from the rules? I thought when people went to prison it was because they were going to pay for something bad. And by paying for that something they were standing up and manning up to their sins. Although, I guess if you're running you must feel like you've payed already. I'm just glad you don't see yourself as a coward for escaping, as other people might," he finished with a small smile on his face. Then he cocked his head, "Elliot, that's the name of the guy. At least, I think that's what Sephira said. Did you know him? I heard he was a really cool guy. Must've been, if his heart was truly as golden as James said it had to be for me to attack him. It's so sad to think that someone as nice as him died. At least, I think he died saving James. I like to think that's how he went, though I can't quite remember." A deep sigh escaped from Elwood. This topic made him so tired.
