Maxwell's mother pulled Arthur back, not wanting her son and her husband to fight.

"Would both of you calm down? I was afraid this was going to happen!" The ghost looked at her husband. "And we might as well tell him now."

"You tell him. He's your son, not mine." Arthur replied, still very cross with Maxwell.

"Yeah, Mom, tell me." Maxwell said, looking at his father.

"Oh, look at the family resemblance." Mother said sarcastically, showing both males she was starting to get annoyed. "Anyways, your father and I found a prophet in the afterlife, and we asked him about your future. He said to tell you to beware of those who side with you, because one of them will betray you in the future."

This news calmed Maxwell down, but it also confused him. "Those who side with me? Does that mean like...one of the commanders of my army? Or like the other forces in Termina that I want be allies with?"

"He wouldn't say. Didn't want us to spoil the ending for you."

"This prophet had a sense of humor?"

    "Believe it or not, yes."

This news didn't seem to disturb Maxwell much, but inside his mind, he considered all the different possibilities.

Could that mean Sephira? Maybe, but probably not. It's probably one of the commanders. Those *******s. They most likely want my power for themselves, so they'll probably kill me when I squash the rebellion. I should watch my back.

Arthur sighed. "Alright, he knows. Can we go?" Arthur asked, still frustrated.

"Fine." Mother faced Maxwell. "Alright, honey, we're going to go now. Now that you can see and hear us, I guess you'll be seeing us around. Goodbye, and don't burn the house down while we're gone!"

"Goodbye, Mother." Maxwell said, waving as the two ghosts vanished. He sighed, not knowing what to think or say. He had just talked to his dead parents after years of his mind being tortured by their deaths, and they had given him a confusing peek at his future.

"Let's....go back to the table." Maxwell said, not masking his feelings as he started to walk back to the dining room.

Sephira relaxed as the two ghosts vanished, to the point where she nearly fell over. She managed to caught herself before doing so and followed Maxwell back to the dining area. She really hated ghosts. She knew Maxwell was glad to have been able to talk with his family again, but she really hated ghosts. She hoped she didn't have to see them again while she was here. Especially now that they had planted a seed of doubt in his mind. After the warning they had imparted, he was likely to start suspecting her. And if he started cutting her out, before she was even really in, she'd have a hard time getting the information Edward needed. Speaking of which, she needed to find a way to send him about the meeting with the spy.
"Are you going to be okay?" she asked Maxwell as she noticed he wasn't hiding his emotions. After what had just happened, he'd be feeling vulnerable, which might give her a chance to earn his trust. She was genuinely concerned for him, knowing just how hard it had been for him, seeing his parents again.

Maxwell didn't respond to Sephira's question. He simply walked back to the table and resumed eating. He didn't say anything or look up from his plate until he was done.

After that, he simply sat at the table, silent. After a while, he looked at Sephira for a few seconds, then looked to his left.

"Somebody get some wine for me!" Maxwell yelled angrily. Very soon, one of the butlers brought a bottle, an opener, and a glass to the table. Maxwell opened the bottle, and chugged part of the wine straight from the bottle. When he finished, the bottle showed he had downed a fourth of it.

A bit later, Maxwell decided to speak. "What's the point? I'm too messed up for this world. Dad....Dad was right. I just k-kill.... everything. I've never cared about anything. It was clear now that the alchol was getting to his head. He tried pouring some in the glass, but poured it onto the table instead. When he noticed, he put the bottle down and slide it down the table, away from him and Sephira.

Sephria watched Maxwell rather uncomfortably as they ate in silence. She flinched as he yelled for wine, then watched with unease as he downed it. Sparks appeared along her skin, dancing in time with her beating heart before disappearing, only for more to appear. She forced herself to calm down, knowing that the little flames combined with the wine were not a good combination. She'd have to dance with care, as anything she said while he was in this state could easily make or break her position. "You have to care about something," she said softly. "After Strattus betrayed us, all I could think about was getting revenge and killing all who stood in my way. Even then, in the midst of my blood rage, I still cared for St-Zarola." She mentally kicked herself for nearly slipping Star's name, hoping it would go unnoticed. "And when it was done, and all I could think about was being the sole survivor, she pulled me from my depression. If it weren't for her, I would have died in misery long ago."

Maxwell, being drunk, didn't notice Sephira's slip. "Yeah, see, y-you had....you had Zarollo...or Zoralla...or whatever...I HAVE NOBODY! Not one single person...."

Maxwell attempted to drink from the empty glass, then saw that it was empty. He slammed it on the table, then slid it towards the bottle.

"Nobody cares about me...nobody...nobody's been there. Just me...f-for my..self. And it's too late for anybody to help me...nobody can save me."

"Not true," Sephira said, taking the glass and bottle and pushing them further down the table. She didn't want him attempting to drink any more, or to get angry enough to start throwing them. "It's never too late. I would have said it was too late for me after burning Strattus alive. But I came back. I completely destroyed everything I had been raised to be and do, and annihilated the remnants of my people, even if they didn't even deserve to be Stari. But I'm still here. I've been beaten and broken, and I came back. I met my dead ancestors, and traumatic as it was, I came back. I've gone through hell and back, and while it didn't leave me unscathed, I'm stronger than before. I've made myself a decent person again, made myself back into what a Stari should be. Sure, I have my slip-ups, like with those men earlier. But I'm a better person, with people I care about. You can be too, Max. You just have to find that one reason to improve yourself, the one person you want to be proud of you the most. Me, it was my tribe. As the last, I wanted be the best, someone who'd keep them from being forgotten."

Maxwell started to chuckled, then went to a loud laugh. It was clear that the alcohol was mixing up his emotions, making him react weirdly to everything.

"Well..you know me, Sephira, Saphira, Maphira, whatever your name is. I don't have nobody to be my reason. Y-you, maybe, but y-you're just going to leave me...or get killed, like L-L-Lizzz...."

She was starting to feel really uncomfortable with this. She generally wanted to help him, but he was right. She would have to leave him. She could deny it, but if she was to finish this mission, she would have to deny him. But maybe... Would Edward have to kill him? It was possible Maxwell would survive this, then he could work to improve himself. Maybe, just maybe, she could make him a promise that was not a lie.

"I'm hard to kill, Max. You've seen the proof of that. I just killed fourteen people without even having to lift a finger, and my archery is just as deadly. Whatever happened to Liz won't happen to me, I can guarantee that. As for leaving." She hesitated, still unsure, then plunged on. "You're right, I will eventually. Everyone leaves eventually. But that doesn't have to be forever. I will return, or you will find me. But if you can be a better person, maybe I'll be inclined to stay, or at least come back sooner and stay longer. Prove you're worth my time, my remaining."

Maxwell laughed even more. "P-Prove I'm worth your time? Look at me! I don't even know what I am! A drrrrrunk? A killerrrrr? You know what, I should just let Edward kill me! J-just end it now beforrre it gets worse!"

At this point, Maxwell got up and started to try to walk to his room.

"I....I'm going to....sleep! Sleep, wake up, and not be drunk! Yeah, that'll show him....agh...."

Sephira stood too and took his arm as he staggered away. "You're going to kill yourself climbing up those stairs in this state." With a firm grip she guided him up them carefully, then let him lead her to his bedroom. "I have so many names, so many identities. Princess of the Stari. Daughter of Balthscar. Last of my tribe. I'm a huntress, able to read tracks as easily as one would a book, and understand animals as if they spoke Hylian. I am the embodiment of fire. But that's not who I am. I am Sephira Phoenix, and right now, I'm putting you to bed. You'll figure out who you are and who you want to be. And when you do, come get me. Just wait until morning, okay?" she added with a smile.

Maxwell fell onto his bed, finding that he was tired for some reason.

"Yeah, yeah...in the morn...ing..." And with that, Maxwell fell asleep.

                        The next morning.....

Maxwell woke up, feeling a bit sleepy. Fortunately, he wasn't hungover from last night. He saw that Sephira was not in the room, and left. He walked down the stairs, then sat on the couch in the piano room. He rubbed his eyes with the bottom of his palms, clearing up his vision. Maxwell thought about what he said while drunk, and Sephira's responses. How was he supposed to figure out who he was and who he wanted to be in such a short matter of time? It frustrated him.

Well, the first question wasn't so hard. He was Maxwell Kal. But what did that mean? The spoiled kid who killed his father because of the stress of his mother's death and became best friends with a runaway who left him because he wanted to make his nation stronger? Maybe he was being too critical of himself. He knew Edward wouldn't think so.

Who did he want to be? Well, if he was Maxwell Kal, and not a killer or a drunk, then this question was confusing. Was he supposed to not be Maxwell Kal? Then he realized it made some sense. He could be Maxwell Kal, just not the Maxwell Kal he was right now. Stop all the killing non-sense. What if this king thing was a second chance? His chance for his sins to be forgiven, and be remembered as Maxwell Kal, the hero, instead of Maxwell Kal, the murderer.

Ha, hero. No way that's happening. Not hero, but something better than whatever I am right now.

Sephira had slept in one of the guest rooms, shown to her by one of the servants. When she woke, she found Zarola had come back sometime in the night. The large black cat lay in a patch of sun, for all the world as if she had always been there and would continue to lie there. "Where were you?" Sephira hissed, knowing the panther was awake.
She opened one gold eye to regard her. "Telling that yellow creature you call a hunter what Maxwell had said yesterday to his spy. That's what you would have wanted me to do, isn't it? Since it's important to the rebellion?" She closed her eye again. "Not that Edward felt there was any reason to act on it. Said it was too late to do anything and if he did send reinforcements, Maxwell would just send more. He does have a number advantage." She heaved a sigh of contentment. "Doesn't matter to me, though. Long as I can enjoy my nap in quiet."
Sephira glared at her, then stood and dressed. Zarola was annoying, but she did deliver the message without being asked. If only she would stop being so selfish and cynical of Hylians. And Terminans.
Maxwell was downstairs, sitting at the piano with a stony expression on his face. She wondered what he was thinking of, to produce such an expression. Perhaps it was something from last night, either with his parents, or something when he was drunk, if he even remembered any of that. Or had someone come in with news since they'd gone to bed? Well, only one way to find out.
                          "Morning, Max."

Maxwell looked up when he heard Sephira's voice and made eye contact with her.

"I thought you wanted me to come find you after I figured out the answers to your questions." Maxwell said, smiling a little.

"Speaking of which, I've been thinking about those questions...well, they weren't really questions, but you get the idea. I know who I am right now. I'm Maxwell Kal, but I don't really like this Maxwell. I need to be a new Maxwell, you know? A Maxwell who doesn't kill unless he needs to. A Max who doesn't result to alcohol when he's depressed. I mean, I might never be a hero, but heck, almost anything's better than what I am right now."

Sephira smiled, glad that her words had broken through the drunken fog. Maybe if he did change, there'd be no need for the rebellion. Edward's troops would realize it was all just because of the bad blood between the leaders and decide to return to the peace. All that needed to happen was for Maxwell to change as he said he would, and for Edward to give up his war. And why don't I ask the goddesses to turn the sky green and the sun purple, she thought sourly. She was being naïve with that kind of thinking. It was possible, but such a stretch, the goddesses would have to influence it. If I am to be the tool you use, she silently prayed, guide me carefully. "So you know who you are and who you want to be. How are you going to get from here to there?" She folded her arms and leaned against the wall, genuinely curious.

"Maxwell, breakfast is ready for both you and your guest!" A voice yelled from down the hall.

"Alright, coming down!" Maxwell yelled back. "Come on, let's go eat." Maxwell said, standing and walking to the dining room.
