  • Sephira stared at him for a moment, then nodded. That would explain why Star couldn't see or smell the person, while still hearing. Ghosts were one of the few super-natural things that Sephira believed in. She had only seen a few, and she wasn't certain if they were actual ghosts, or just visions, but she was more trusting of them than she was of living, excluding animals.
Sephira reached over and laid a hand on James' knee. "I believe you," she said, seeing his fear that she wouldn't written in his expression. "And what the ghost needed you for is your own business. Don't explain it to me if you don't want to." She patted his knee, then started to pet Star, who was starting to get warm from the heat of the fire and Stari.

    • James sighed and smiled gladly, happy that Sephira hadn't judged him for a nutcase. He stared into the fire, enjoying its warmth even though it hurt his eyes. Meanwhile, Melody was feeling a little mischievous. She floated invisibly till she was kneeling next to Sephira. With a whisper in her voice, she blew words into her ear. "What a pretty lady, and not at all gossipy, I love that," she said, while with one of her hands caressing her cheek. Inside, she was grinning.

      • Sephira smiled as she saw James exhale. She guessed it was with relief, and she was glad that she wasn't lieing about believing in him.
Suddenly, a voice whispered in her ear and a hand touched her cheek. Startled, Sephira jumped up, much to Star's displeasure. The cheetah grumbled and moved to lay by James, her warm fur probably hotter to him than it had been to Sephira, since he was cooler. Sephira blinked as she saw the cheetah gave no further reaction and realized it must be the ghost. Carefully hiding her anger, she placed her fist over her heart and bowed to where the voice had seemed to eminate. "The moon watch you, spirit," she said, her tone more formal and respectful than when she spoke to any other person.

        • James raised an eyebrow at Sephira when she jumped. He petted Star once she was next to him, enjoying the feel of her warmth as much as that of the fire. He looked up when Sephira spoke at the nothingness, but said nothing. Melody materialized in front of the girl. "Honey, please, I've had enough formalities when I was alive. I don't care much for them now that I'm dead." She walked over to the fire and turned back to look at Sephira, the flames seemingly going through her. "You may call me, Melody," she said, while James kept petting Star.

          • Sephira smiled at the ghost. "I apologize. It is my habit to revert to my birth speech when I am startled or afraid. I will try to keep it under control if you so desire."
Star glanced over at Sephira and snorted. You revert to it when habit slips more than emotions. I will admit, though, you seem to prefer it, regardless of who is around.
Sephira gave the cheetah a baleful look. "Star, I will always prefer the language of my ancestors to that of my friends. I know I am its last speaker, when I die it will with me." Sephira was careful to say this in cheetah, so that James couldn't understand and be offended.

            • "Something doesn't die with a person, unless that person so wishes. If you would want to, you could spread the saplings of your speech along this land and have them grow into powerful trees. But again, only if you so wish," said Melody, that through the ages had spent a lot of time developing different tongues and mixing it with her vocabulary. James frowned at Star, the ghost, and not as hard, but still a little at Sephira, for he had no idea what they were talking about. He thought maybe they could even be talking about him. He shook the thought away before his mind started making false scenarios in his head.

              • Sephira blinked at Melody. It took her a little while to figure out exactly what she meant, before realizing the ghost had understood her and Star's conversation. Her eyes flicked to James, then back to Melody. She smiled faintly. "I thank you for your encouragement, Melody, and I pray my way of life will not die with me. I fear, though, that the goddesses have no further use for the Stari. I am the last, and it will be hard for me to continue the powers and customs of my people alone."

                • Melody smiled kindly, something which was unusual for her. "I wouldn't be so sure, Sephira," she said, then turned to James before she could answer. "So how have you been, little soldier?"
James was surprised by the question, and was about to answer completely honestly before remembering that Sephira didn't know about what had happened at the graveyard. "Not bad, not bad at all," he finally said, smiling as he went over his romantic moment with Sephira earlier.

                  • Sephira blinked. Why would a spirit be sure her anscestors' customs would be passed down? The powers, Sephira knew, would die rather quickly. The phoenix powers were striped from their user when she concieved a child, and they were only passed down to the first born daughter. If her first child wasn't a daughter, the Stari powers were as good as gone. The Stari customs would be gone too, for they mostly revolved around the star cheetahs and the forest. While she could go back to the forest, she was certain FallenStar was the last star cheetah. Unless others had been raised in the wild, the star cheetahs were as dead as the Stari.
Star looked up at Sephira and growled. The girl jumped, so absorbed was she in her thoughts. She flashed a smile of gratitude to the cheetah. She hated it when her thoughts went down that path. Somehow, the cheetah, sensitive to her moods, was always able to tell when they did and would made a warning noise of some sort to pull her focus away.

                    • James sighed with a smile on his face as he rested his head on the wall. Outside the moon was moving across the sky unstopped, the stars glowing in the dark, the animals sleeping or hunting, the people resting. Thinking about the world outside always made him feel smaller, not as important. He liked it; he liked to feel every once in a while that his every decision didn't mean the end of the world, though sometimes it did mean the end of someone's life. As his thoughts quickly flickered to the night in the cellar long years ago, he grunted and looked back at the beings in the room. The past doesn't matter, there's nothing I can do about it. But they...they do matter. He grabbed a stick and poked the fire with it, enjoying the warmth it brought over the room.

                      • Sephira sat down next to James, watching him. The expressions on his face were more than a good enough distraction for her from her own thoughts. She watched him jab at the fire, then scooted closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder. It had been a long day and she was tired. However, she doubted any of the beds in this house were very good, either moth-eaten or rotten like the table and chairs had been. It didn't matter much, as she was used to sleeping in the open. She liked snuggling with someone, though, and Star was on the other side of James.

                        • James turned to smile at Sephira when he felt her rest her head on him. He put his arm around her shoulders and sighed happily, noticing she had cooled down a bit, which made him worry less. He patted the cheetah's head before resting his own on the wall behind him, enjoying the warmth of the fire. Melody smiled as the two cuddled up. "Good night, love birds," she said under her breath before disappearing into the air, leaving James, Sephira, and Star alone.

                          • In the Morning

Sephira blinked as sun crossed her face from the window. She sat up, then winced and rubbed her neck. She wondered why, then remembered she had fallen asleep on James' shoulder, rather than the ground like she was used to. She glanced over at the young man sleeping next to her and smiled. He looked so young and innocent asleep. She kissed his forehead, then stood and moved silently to her pack, to see if she could make something for breakfast.
She couldn't find anything in it that would make a decent meal. Grimacing, she pulled her wallet out of her pack and headed to the door, aiming to go to the market and buy something.
Star lifted her head and gave a quiet meow, asking where she was going. Sephira smiled and whispered, "I'm going to get breakfast. If James wakes up before I get back, make sure he doesn't come after me. I don't want him to miss me by going the wrong way." Star gave a faint nod and laid her head back down. Sephira smiled at the cheetah, then left the house.

                            • Gerrard and Amaterasu arrive in Visit to the Village from Sephira's Camp.

Gerrard had been looking for Sephira for several days until he finally made it to Kakariko. He had looked almost everywhere else and he was hoping she would be here. When he thought about it, he didn't even know why he was looking for her. Out loud he told himself he was doing it to find out what happened to him, but inside he thought something else. He then saw a pair of footprints, he followed it and saw a weird cabin. He opened the door and saw James sleeping with Star by him. He froze to a stop, hoping they wouldn't see him.

                              • James shifted in his sleep, feeling someone leave his side, but not waking up. His breathing was regular and peaceful, completely unaware of someone watching him. His hand moved and found Star's fur, but for a moment it felt weird, so he pulled it back and woke up. His eyes slowly fluttered open, his eyesight still blurry. "Wha..." he mumbled.
